A BROKEN SILENCE
How
did you get your start in the music industry?
B-Don held
a MC battle at a club in Sydney, which Torcha hosted. They talked about trying
to do something different. B-Don also went to TAFE with Cactus and asked him if
he wanted to get involved in, at the time, an un-named project. The decision was
made to do one track to see if we could come up with something, a sound that worked.
This one track was 'Everyday' which appears on our debut album 'All For What'.
After writing a few more songs, the band was put together and A Broken Silence
was formed.
Best part of the job?
Ahh.
Apart from just writing and jamming, free beers would be the main inspiration
but jumping on stage with a band as tight as we got, coupled with loving music
more than anything else definitely makes it the only thing I'd want to pursue
work wise...
Worst part of the job?
Haven't
really found that yet.
Favourite CD of all time and why?
There's
definitely too many to list. Each band member has a very different taste in music
but our inspiration ranges from Wyclef to City Sleeps and from Miles Davis to
Dillinger Escape Plan. But for me, it would definitely be B.D.P Sex and Violence
because it was music that had a lot to say and had me thinking outside the box
about many things in life at a very young age.
Tell us about
the best live show that you ever saw?
Public Enemy when
I was 13 in Sydney.
Favourite bars/clubs/pubs to hang out
in?
Royal Oak in Parramatta. Me (Torcha) and Bdon managed
the place for a few years. Way too much debauchery...probably the reason we had
to leave.
Take us through a typical "day in the life
of A Broken Silence".
Wake up, should we go to work??
Throw the dice, it lands on either Bottle-O or work - it usually lands on the
latter. Can't speak for all the boys - they work too hard. But me and B-Don make
up for them out of empathy.
What advice would you give
to someone looking at getting involved in the music industry?
Can
you stretch a dollar, drink only goon, smoke Holliday ciggies, box out your landlord??
If yes, I'd say try it. Otherwise, find some rich parents to adopt you. If you
can do this, then yes, the industry is for you. Honestly, you just have to be
a lot more business orientated these days which makes it a little harder for people
whose main focus is music.
