Beyond
Alba Varden's relentless energy and captivating live performance, lays a depth
of creativity conceptualised within strong and very particular ideals. From humble
beginnings, delivering their 'Alba Varden' flavoured lunacy to little more than
a tea party, Alba Varden have become known more recently for bringing in the new
year on stage at the hallowed turf of 'The Espy', and recent set at the Spook
Magazine launch in lead up to the release of their recorded debut 'Down The Rabbit
Hole'.
Just as the title suggests, an ever-evolving, surreal and entirely
emotional narrative ensues throughout 'Down The Rabbit Hole'. A soundtrack which
stems from an empathetic fascination of human nature and its ability to corrupt
even the purist of character, depicting a story of a single entity named 'Alba',
a paranoid schizophrenic who grapples with his dark and overbearing alter ego
'Varden' as the ultimate question is posed
"Would you give up yourself
for the one you love?"
'Down The Rabbit Hole' offers a 'work in progress'
tinged with shades of romanticism, desire, escapism and lust, granting a hazy
glimpse into the twisted mind of Alba Varden. Their musical texture combines a
dark and brooding pulse in the midst of angular shoe-gaze guitars, providing the
foundation for their indie blend of raw, dirty and downright sleazy, danceable
rock.
Featuring the driving lead single 'Soul Digger', this unusual EP
delivers a truly ground breaking, unique sound captured feverishly in the year
2009 at internationally renowned 'Big Jesus Burger Studios', by Gerling's Burke
Reid (The Mess Hall's 'Devils Elbow', The Drones' 'Havilah' and PVT's 'Church
With No Magic').
