YOUNG AUSTRALIAN MUSICIANS GO GLOBAL WITH AYO INTERNATIONAL TOUR
AYO International
Tour held once every three years heads to China, Europe and UK
The
Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) will give the world a taste of Australia's finest
classical young musicians with the triennial AYO International Tour set to take
place in July and early August.
This year is the 20th anniversary of the
AYO International Tour and will showcase 92 talented musicians performing in some
of the most prestigious venues across the globe. Europe and China will be the
focus of the tour which starts in Canberra and Sydney and then travels to Shanghai,
Beijing, London, Copenhagen and Amsterdam.
Many of the musicians who were
selected for the orchestra have completed 12 AYO training programs. This pathway
is created to nurture the musical development of Australia's finest young instrumentalists.
The
Australian Youth Orchestra's CEO Colin Cornish played in the orchestra's International
Tour in 1988 and said the tour is a culmination of three years of hard work and
dedication by these top young musicians on show for the world to see.
"This
year is our most ambitious tour yet across three continents and is one of the
most influential experiences which inspires these young artists to become our
future greats."
"It is impossible not to get moved and transformed
by this touring experience AYO provides and we're especially honoured to have
celebrated international conductor Sir Mark Elder at the helm," said Cornish.
Sir Mark Elder CBE has been music director of the prestigious Halle, Manchester
since 2000 and works with many of the world's leading symphony orchestras including
the Berlin Philharmonic, the Orchestre de Paris, the Chicago Symphony, the Boston
Symphony, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Munich Philharmonic.
Elder
last conducted the AYO at the Adelaide Festival in 1982 and his enthusiasm to
return to work with the orchestra, and in particular the current generation of
musicians, is testament to the AYO's international reputation.
