With
a unique blend of garage-rock riffs and surf-pop hooks, The Fearless Vampire Killers
we know today are a far cry from the sound you would expect of four teens who
made a high school pact to worship the false idols of rock n' roll. Although the
line up has changed slightly since starting out, the Melbourne outfit have proved
they possess the raw talent and genius essential for creating highly infectious
tracks.
The first taste from this bands powerful and intoxicating
LP was For You and Me, a catchy blues infused track that, left listeners with
an uncontrollable thirst for more. "This song was never going to be our single.
We didn't realise this song's potential until months after the recording".
It was a long process with each track coming together in its
own time. Some, including previous single Loaded Gun, spent months as a work in
progress, without a title, or main phrase. "The very last thing we did was
finally settle on "I'm a Loaded Gun'". While other tracks such as The
Sinner were born then and there whilst experimenting with a new dynamic, and proving
deprivation breeds creativity. "Our old bassist Whil didn't turn up to practice
one day so we played around as a three-piece with Sean on bass, and this is what
came out. It was an interesting way to work".
From secret
house parties to support slots for the likes of Kasabian, The Hives and more recently
The Mars Volta, The Fearless Vampire Killers erupt live. The level of skill possessed
by this young band when performing becomes evident as does the bands musical influences.
Paying homage the rock icons, The Beatles, the band's striking live rendition
of Yer Blues is an absolute stand out and always has the audience swooning.
Following
a number of successful singles the band chose Melbourne's Soundpark Studios to
make their mark and record debut album Batmania - featuring Seán Ainsworth
on vocals & rhythm guitar, Jacob McGuffie on bass guitar, Justin Olsson on
drums and Al Marx on lead guitar. Batmania has been produced by Lars Stalfors
(The Mars Volta) and engineered by Michael Badger.
