Scotty of BOTANICS
How
did you get your start in the music industry?
We all have a massive interest
in music, especially the live aspect, so it was a kind of natural progression
into doing what we do. We've also been lucky to work with so many supportive people
too.
Best part of the job?
Performing.
Worst part
of the job?
Waking up after a show and having to hit the road.
Any
interesting experiences you can share?
Ha! A gig called the 'Naked Music
Circus' springs to mind. An 'interesting experience', to say the least!
Favourite
CD of all time and why?
That's a tough one. I would have to say 'Legend',
Bob Marley and the Wailers.
For me, it was the album that opened my ears,
musically and lyrically, to so many different styles and ideas, and I still love
the songs.
Tell us about the best live show that you ever saw?
The first time I saw Ozomatli at Blues Fest, maybe '99, was one of the most dynamic
and exciting shows I've ever seen, but The Roots can't be left out when talking
about best live shows either
Favourite bars/clubs/pubs to hang
out in?
Generally we hang out round Manly - there's a few cool spots.
If we head into the city, it's usually to Darlinghurst or around there.
What
advice would you give to someone looking at getting involved in the
music
industry?
It's all about getting your name out there with a lot of hard
work and persistence.
Take us through a typical "day in the life
of Botanics".
I'd like to say I get up early, go for a wave, eat
out for breakfast then hit the studio for a few hours. Surf again, then go play
a show
But it's not quite like that though. We all have pretty full-time
jobs that we try to fit in around the band, recording, rehearsing, touring etc.
It's a lot of work but it's also rewarding to be doing it independently.
Any
news or final comments?
Yeah, we've finished recording our second album,
already released one track, and have an EP coming out real soon. Our next Sydney
show is at Spectrum, on Oxford St, 19th of December and it should be a huge one!
Thanks to everyone for their support!
