32
of Crowded House's top hits and fan favourites have been gathered for a new CD
and digital collection to be released October 15 by Capitol/EMI. Celebrating the
Australian band's 25th anniversary, 'The Very Very Best Of Crowded House' features
the hits "Don't Dream It's Over", "Four Seasons In One Day",
"Better Be Home Soon" and many other standout singles and album tracks.
The new collection will be available as a 2CD set and digital download, plus a
special 2CD/DVD package that will also include 25 music videos spanning the band's
career.
Crowded House was formed in Melbourne in 1985 by ex-Split
Enz lynchpin, New Zealander Neil Finn (vocals, guitar, keyboards), and two young
Australian musicians, Paul Hester (drums) and Nick Seymour (bass). The band's
self-titled debut, 'Crowded House', was released in 1986 and topped the Australian
charts, eventually selling over half-a-million copies (7x platinum) in Australia
alone. On the back of a tireless international touring schedule, the album also
reached #12 on the US Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, and its breakout single,
"Don't Dream It's Over", rocketed to #2 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles
chart and became a worldwide smash in 1987. "Something So Strong", the
album's second single, reached #7 on Billboard's Hot 100.
1988's
follow-up album, 'Temple Of Low Men', also topped the Australian charts and produced
another worldwide hit in "Better Be Home Soon". Album number three,
1991's 'Woodface', saw Crowded House expand and welcome in Tim Finn, Neil's older
brother and former Split Enz bandmate. The harmony-laden 'Woodface' - featuring
the classic hits "Weather with You", "Four Seasons In One Day"
and "It's Only Natural" - reached #2 on the Australian ARIA charts and
#6 on the British album charts. Tim Finn soon left the band and was replaced by
the American multi-instrumentalist Mark Hart and the new line-up produced 1993's
brooding 'Together Alone' (#2 AUS, #1 NZ, #4 UK).
Coinciding
with the release of 1996's mega-selling 'Recurring Dream: The Very Best of Crowded
House' (#1 AUS - 13x Platinum; #1 NZ; #1 UK - 4x Platinum), the band announced
it would split and farewelled the world with an unforgettable free concert on
the steps of the Sydney Opera House in November 1996.
Following
the tragic death of drummer Paul Hester in 2005, Neil Finn and Nick Seymour decided
to reform Crowded House (along with Mark Hart and new drummer Matt Sherrod) and
have since released two Australian chart-topping albums, 2007's 'Time on Earth'
and 2010's 'Intriguer'.
One of the most popular live outfits
ever to come out of Australia, Crowded House is currently on tour in North America
and will be back home for a national Australian tour this November. For more information,
