Da Mario, Rosebery

Da Mario, Rosebery

Da Mario is one of Sydney’s leading pizzerias, offering authentic wood-fired pizza and classic Italian food. On our recent trip to the Rosebery restaurant, we got to experience some of their mouth-watering menu, laid back atmosphere and excellent customer service.

Da Mario offers a curated selection of antipasto, fried dishes, pasta made fresh in-house daily, salads, pizza’s and decadent desserts. The traditional Italian menu includes everything from Grilled Provolone Cheese Drizzled in Honey and Oregano, Fresh Tagliatelle with Pork and Veal Ragu and Parmesan to Margarita Pizza with Prosciutto and Wild Rocket.

The heart of this bistro style restaurant is their enormous three tonne red pizza oven imported from Naples, which pumps out over 600 pizza’s per week. The two they pumped out for us were just outstanding. The Melanzane comprised of tomato, scamorza (smoked mozzarella), eggplant and fresh oregano while the Capricciosa came with tomato, mozzarella, mushroom, artichoke, olives and ham. They were truly authentic Neapolitan pizza’s which we just couldn’t get enough of.

Da Mario is actually one of 19 restaurants in Australia to be part of Italy’s prestigious ‘Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana’ – a globally respected organisation that aims to promote and protect the “True Napoletana Pizza” and ensures the product is made in accordance with the international regulation registered. Da Mario religiously follows the disciplines of this organisation, which means no variations.

For something light to go with your pizza or pasta dish, there’s also a great selection on their antipasto menu. We tried the Caprese Salad with fresh buffalo mozzarella, tomato, basil, and extra virgin olive oil. Made to resemble the colours of the Italian flag, this dish is about as traditional as it gets. We also had the Pesce Marinato – raw swordfish carpaccio marinated in white balsamic, spanish onion, and pink peppercorns served with herb focaccia. This was yet another classic Italian dish (of the seafood variety) that had our tongues dancing – just superb!

To finish the night off on a high, there are some delicious dessert options: Tiramisu, Panna Cotta, Chocolate Mousse, Gelato, Affogato, and the highlight – Hazelnut Semifreddo with white chocolate and strawberries. Cool, creamy, and finger-licking good!

The restaurant itself has an industrial feel with exposed brick on the walls, potted ferns hanging from the ceiling and a large deck area which is perfect for enjoying an afternoon beverage. For a traditional Italian dining experience, we highly recommend you visit this hidden gem. Open for Lunch (12pm – 3pm, Friday – Sunday) and Dinner (5pm til late, Tuesday – Sunday).
