Daisy Hicks
How did you get your start in the music industry?
My family are all in the industry so it's in the blood. I started
performing at an early age.
Best part of the job?
Being in the studio and writing - that is my favourite time.
Worst part of the job?
The nerves just before I go on stage. No matter how many times I perform,
I still get that butterfly effect before my performance.
Any interesting experiences you can share?
I did a live TV charity gig in the UK. On the last song, all the artists
got up and sang together. To the left of me was Boy George and to
the right was Gloria Gaynor. I was completely star struck and forgot
what I was singing.
Favourite CD of all time and why?
Oh so many and it depends on what kind of mood I'm in. I was playing
Train's album 'Drops of Jupiter'. Today, that's definitely in my top
10. Great driving music!
Tell us about the best live show that you ever saw?
I was about 9 years old and I remember seeing Chris Rea - my dad was
playing drums for him. It was a massive stadium concert, the vibe
was fantastic, and I was so proud because my dad was up there. I still
watch old videos of that tour and get shivers.
Favourite bars/clubs/pubs to hang out in?
I love to go and see live music and check out bands. So, the Basement,
Wine Banq, Golden Sheaf - I wish there were more venues.
What advice would you give to someone looking at getting involved
in the
music industry?
It's not the easiest job. There are so many highs and lows so be prepared
for a rollercoaster. CD sales aren't what they used to be so being
just a singer is tough. Y need to write your own music and make your
money from song writing
but there's no business like show business!
Take us through a typical "day in the life of Daisy Hicks".
Get up, attempt to go to the gym, do my vocal exercises. If I have
a gig that night, I go through the songs. Then I'll spend a few hours
trying all my clothes on - then choose the first outfit I tried on!
Get to the venue, sound check, do the gig, then relax with the band
and have a glass of wine.
Any news or final comments?
I have just signed deal overseas, so fingers crossed.
