DJ Helena Q&A
In the lead up to her summer residency at Drai’s in Las Vegas, UK born Australian DJ/producer, Helena, took some time out to chat with Sydney Unleashed.
How did you get your start in the music industry?
In Australia I started working with my now ex-manager Tony Plowman and he put together a plan for me to launch into the Australian market so I owe a lot to him. I have however been working in the music industry since I left school. I started out running clubs.
Best part of what you do?
Traveling the world, doing what I love every single day.
And the worst part?
Lack of sleep, intense travel schedules, airport food.
Any interesting experiences you can share?
I’m sure there have been lots. A flight I was once on hit an air pocket and just immediately dropped down out the sky – luckily it then stabilised itself. Not sure if that’s Interesting or just terrifying.
Favourite album of all time and why?
Daft Punk – Homework album. They were such a huge inspiration to me when I first got into dance music.
Take us through a typical day in the life of Helena.
Wake up, check socials and emails like an addict, coffee, breakfast, gym then all day generally working on music in all forms. Eat sleep rave repeat.
What advice would you give to someone looking at getting involved in the music industry?
Know your shit, there is a lot of competition. Focus on what will seperate you from the rest and learn production.
