The deaths look like suicides by the police suspect euthanasia. Are they unrelated mercy killings or is there something more sinister going on?Detective Inspector Ray Duckworth is brought in from Victoria to solve the cases. Brilliant, intuitive and with a perfect track record, he is also vehemently opposed to euthanasia. Results are expected quickly. But after two years Duckworth is still no closer to the truth and the deaths continue unabated. Then a breakthrough. The clues lead Duckworth to the killer, who reveals a pitiful truth, not just about his own actions but about Duckworth's past and his appointment with destiny.ABOUT THE AUTHORFrank Aquino was born in Collie, Western Australia. A fulltime writer living in Perth, he has published a number of books, including thrillers with topical themes and the Ed Baily series of crime novels. 'The Fremantle Doctor' contains the topical theme of euthanasia which is currently being discussed in WA. Frank came up with the concept for 'The Fremantle Doctor' after his 80-year-old mother suddenly went from being a warm, outgoing, independent Italian momma to an introverted, frightened woman too scared to leave the house in literally three weeks. After many medical tests it became clear that his mother could no longer look after herself, so she agreed to go into an Aged Care Facility near Frank's home. After walking through the door for the first time, Frank's mother turned to him and said, "I just want someone to come here and knock me on the head." These words provoked a discussion within his family about the pros and cons of voluntary euthanasia which in turn triggered the concept for the book.'The Fremantle Doctor' is available now.
