Series
Nine of the landmark Grand Designs presents a whole new level of ingenuity, ambition
and architectural wonder. Expertly guided by the erudite Kevin McCloud, this series
takes you on seven extraordinary builds - from the re-birthing of a dilapidated
mill complex into a sustainable and dynamic dream home, the conversion of a crumbling
boathouse on a pier through to the re-interpretation of a heritage listed barn
into a contemporary museum-like home.
Designer and presenter
Kevin McCloud follows the structural, financial and emotional journey, as well
as the triumph and frustrations of each build over many months. Some of the new
builds to be featured in this series are:
TENBY
Tim
and Philomena snapped up the old Tenby lifeboat house when the RNLI moved out
almost ten years ago. The opportunity to transform it into an incredible home
40 feet above the sea seemed too good to turn down but the task turns out to be
a war on several fronts. With no access for vehicles other than across the beach
Tim has to fight the tides. Then there's the decade of rot to contend with and
the awkward shape of this Victorian structure to fight. It's an epic campaign
from someone who can't even swim!
HEREFORDSHIRE
Ed
and Rowena are about to build a unique Saxon style manor house in the depths of
the countryside, on a site they live on in their self-sufficient small-holding
with their four young children. The house will be built using the same materials
and methods that the Anglo Saxons adopted. With every piece being worked by hand
this bizarrely stunning sculpture of a house uses local timber, straw and clay
for the walls and has a thatched roof.
KENSINGTON
Architect
Ian and his partner Claire's architectural practice have made a name in specialising
in creating cool minimal high spec interiors that maximise compact urban spaces.
Having always dreamed of building their own home, the couple buy a plot at the
end of a cobbled London mews with permission to build a small three story house.
Then Ian gets additional permission to build a massive basement trebling the size
of the original plans and adding a party space complete with illuminated dance
floor. Welcome to the House of Fun.
Join Kevin McCloud and
these owners on their incredible and unique design journeys as they strive to
create their own Grand Designs. The series will also feature revisits to some
of the series previously unfinished builds to see what progress has been made
and how they have finally become homes. AS SEEN ON LIFESTYLE & ABC TV
