OFFICIAL
GUINNESS ARTHURS DAY PARTY!
The Mercantile, The Rocks, Sydney, Friday 25th
Sept
This year the iconic Sydney venue, The Mercantile,
will join a momentous worldwide party to commemorate 250 years since Arthur Guinness
signed the 9,000 years lease on the St James's Gate Brewery.
Arthur's
Day will kick off in Dublin on 24th September and travel to all corners of the
globe, reaching Australia on the 25th. This remarkable day will honour Arthur
Guinness who, in 1759, signed a 9,000 year lease on the now iconic St. James's
Gate Brewery in Dublin, beginning a brewing tradition that would truly stand the
test of time. To mark the significance of the year the lease was signed, at 17:59
local time in Dublin, GUINNESS® lovers will raise their pints to Arthur in
a toast that will travel around the globe, passing through GUINNESS® 250th
anniversary parties in North America, Africa and Asia.
At 17:59
on Friday 25th September, in participating pubs around the nation, Australia will
join this global toast. A hush will fall, glasses will be raised, and thousands
of Australians will join together in a unifying toast to the remarkable man who
left a remarkable legacy..."To Arthur!"
As The Mercantile
is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is situated in the historical
heart of Sydney, The Rocks, it is fitting that it will host Sydney's official
GUINNESS® 250th anniversary party.
The event will run from
4pm - 8pm, and will be jam packed with live music performances, drinks promotions,
traditional Irish fare such as beef and Guinness pies, exclusive screenings of
the Arthur's Day celebrations in Dublin, and of course a countdown to 17:59 where
the whole pub will raise their pints to toast the man who started it all, Arthur
Guinness.
