Hummingbird100
- a new on-line poll created to recognise the best female songs of all time.
The
Hummingird100 is a response to the recent Triple J Hottest 100 of all time released
in July 2009, attracting 13,000 song nominations and 500,000 votes. A list that
contained some of the music world's most influential songs, however, in a tragic
oversight that stirred outrage, not a single female artist made the list.
It
was a shock that artists the calibre of Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Pink, Madonna,
Bjork, ABBA, Kylie and Blondie missed out. The Hummingbird100 has been launched
to address that oversight, giving Australians an opportunity to celebrate the
best female artists of all time.
When asked to comment on the Hummingbird100,
Rolling Stone Editor-in-Chief, Mathew Coyte said; "We're excited to see an
all female top 100. It doesn't make sense that female artists are under-represented
on music lists. Some of the greatest (not to mention highest selling) artists
of all time are female." "We can only assume that these lists are voted
by a predominantly male audience, which makes what Hummingbird is doing incredibly
refreshing, as it will force the voters to choose from an entirely different pool
of artists. I think people will be surprised how easily you can come up with your
own all-female top 10 - and how great that list can be. Here's mine;"

to see which songs make the Top 100 - vote now at www.hummingbird100.com.au
How
it works: The on-line poll calls for entries to nominate the hottest songs of
all time - by women. A massive database will be available from which to choose,
as well as the opportunity to enter your own nomination should your song not be
on the list.
Vote to win: Each vote puts you in the draw to win a trip to
win a $15000 opportunity to chase your musical idols overseas.
The Countdown,
November 29th, 2009 - Sydney: In partnership with Max, a national broadcast will
countdown the results, song by song, eventually revealing the number one. It will
also announce the winner of the overseas trip. It's an exciting story to tell
and Hummingbird Blonde Lager, a light refreshing beer designed for females is
proud to act as storyteller.
