There were plenty of stars at Luna Park in Sydney on 18 November to celebrate the 11th annual Kodak Inside Film Awards. The action packed ceremony was hosted by comedian Eddie Perfect who wrote two songs for the show, with Sam Worthington, Jan Chapman, Kirk Pengilly, Peter O'Brien, Jacqueline McKenzie, Megan Gale, Adam Elliot, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Scott Hicks among the celebrity presenters.

Cannes Palme D'Or winner 'Samson & Delilah' took out the SHOWTIME IF Best Film Award for Warwick Thornton and Kath Shelper. First timers Marissa Gibson and Rowan McNamara overcame serious competition from industry heavyweights Hugo Weaving, Frances O'Connor, Anthony La Paglia and Sasha Horler to win the Best Actress and Best Actor awards respectively. Warwick Thornton also took out the honours with the NFSA Best Director IF Award.

The highlight of the night for many was the crowning of the awards newest Living Legend which went to Australian cinema pioneer and innovator Baz Luhrmann, supported by his wife Catherine Martin and the 'Australia' team, who took to the stage to accept the 2009 Kodak Living Legend IF Award. Said Kodak IF Award General Manager Clare Sawyer, "This year IF have awarded the Kodak Living Legend IF Award to the inimitable Baz Luhrmann. His contribution to world cinema as a genre defying director is undeniable. With only four films to his name he has revolutionised cinema, time and time, again both here and internationally".

In addition 'Australia' took out the top gong for Best Box Office Success over the past year, having taken over $37,555,144 at the Box office. This is the second time a Bazmark production has scooped up this coveted award which sees the public voting with their feet; Moulin Rouge took the Best Box Office IF Award in 2001.

Feature film 'Balibo' didn't walk away empty handed winning the Zig Zag Lane Best Sound and AVID Best Editing categories on the night while Rachel Ward's 'Beautiful Kate' picked up the Sony IF Award for Best Cinematography.

Independent Spirit was heralded by Granaz Mousavi, Kate Croser and Julie Ryan with their remarkable feature film made in Iran 'My Tehran for Sale'. The EFilm IF Award for Rising Talent went to Producer and Director Dominic Allen of Scarab Studio Films whose short film Two Men was one of the hits of the Melbourne International Film Festival.

"It's a great year for Australian films with an enormous amount of diversity of production. The Kodak Inside Film Awards is always first to see the new talents on the rise and acknowledge the pioneering innovators in our industry. Tonight's Kodak Inside Film Awards put Australian talent front and centre and celebrated their achievements" said Clare Sawyer, General Manager.

The awards were rounded off with the announcement of The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce, the story of an Irish penal convict who was hanged in Hobart in 1824 for murder and cannibalism, as the winner of the FACB IF Award for Best Documentary.

The breadth of Australian film talent was clearly evident in the Short Film categories from the Nick Cave narrated winner of the Autodesk IF Award for Best Animation 'The Cat Piano', the Deborah Mailman directed teen love story 'Ralph' took home the Holding Redlich IF Award for Best Short Film and the moving story of homelessness told solely through a camera phone in the winner of the Production Book IF Award for Best Short Documentary, 'Mankind is no Island' by Jason Van Genderen.
