An event that is growing at a rapid pace each year is the Jack Daniel's sponsored Jack Awards. Now in its 4th year, the 2007 event was the first to include members of the public and it was a full house at the ceremony which took place on 15 May at the Big Top, Luna Park (Sydney). Dubbed as Australia's only Live Music Awards, the show honoured those artists that rocked our thriving live scene in 2006. It was no surprise then to see Wolfmother take out the night's top award. The band won the Best Live band award ahead of heavyweights such as You Am I and Beasts of Bourbon. While Silverchair weren't nominated in the category, they didn't walk away empty handed with Daniel Johns winning Australia's Best Male Performer and band mate Ben Gillies picked up the Best Drummer award. But the night wasn't all about the awards. The ceremony featured blistering performances by Airbourne, Beasts of Bourbon, Mercy Arms, You Am I, Howling Bells and Angry Anderson's All Star Jam which included members of You Am I, The Divinyls, Grinspoon and The Sleepy Jackson. Industry guests then kicked on at the after party before converging to the Orient for the "after after party" where the rock 'n' roll revelry continued. It was a fitting end to another night of debauchery. Congratulations to all the winners on the night, which were: Best International Touring Act - Foo Fighters Best Dressed - Katy Steele (Little Birdy) Best Live Newcomer - Red Riders The Ian Rilen Best Bass Guitarist - Andy Kent (You Am I) Best Lead Guitar - Chris Cheney (The Living End) Best Drummer - Ben Gillies (Silverchair) Best Male Performer - Daniel Johns (Silverchair) Best Female Performer - Katy Steele (Little Birdy) Best Tour Art - James Bellisini - The Big Day Out 2006 Best Live Venue - The Gaelic Club (NSW) Gentleman Jack - Michael Gudinski Best Live Band - Wolfmother Danny Canak
