Recorded
over a period of four years, 'Virtual Proximity' is the highly original debut
album from saxophonist/producer James Annesley.
The music combines instrumental
jazz with electronic loops, hip-hop style beats and environmental samples, engulfing
the listener in cinematic soundscapes propelled by relentless rhythms. The mood
is often dark and introspective, with some weird surprises along the way.
Originally
from Adelaide, James Annesley is generally known for his work as a saxophonist
on the Melbourne scene, where he has performed with several jazz, world music,
funk and hip-hop outfits. He currently leads his own quartet, playing original
contemporary jazz, which has toured nationally and also recently released an album.
