How
did you get your start in the music industry?
My mother
and grandfather were both entertainers so I grew up around musicals and shows.
When I was about four, I starting getting up on stage with them singing. It added
the cute factor of course.
Best part of the job?
I get to perform to Aussies all over who love country music.
Worst
part of the job?
Having to travel long miles in a car with
my band playing car games. I refuse! Yuck!
Any interesting
experiences you can share?
At the Gympie Muster in a venue
called the Crow Bar jam packed with about 5,000 rocking campers at 11:00pm.I decided
to be cool while singing and tried to be [David] Beckham by kicking a cup full
of water out into the rocking late night crowd. But
I need to stick to my
day job. It went straight into a girl's face. She got a huge shock then burst
out laughing. I was panicking thinking she may get up and punch me. But it's cool.
We are mates now and still laugh, reminding me to never try and bend it like Beckham.
Favourite
album of all time and why?
Paul Kelly's 'Foggy Highway'
is one of my favourite albums. I saw Paul Kelly and the Storm Water Boys (who
played on the album) at the Tamworth festival performing that album after touring
for months. It was one of the best concerts ever - entertainment to the max -
and musical brilliance. The album did not get the accolades it deserved - it is
a brilliant album.
Tell us about the best live show
that you ever saw?
I just mentioned Paul Kelly but my most
favourite show was the Divinlys a few years ago. Chrissie Amphlett, although not
country, is one of my heroes and the best front woman I have ever seen. A true
entertainer.
Take us through a typical "day in the life of Jayne
Denham"
That one is random - each day is so different. I could
be doing radio interviews if a single is hot or getting ready for a show out somewhere
in this country or at home on my farm sorting out the animals.
What
advice would you give to someone looking at getting involved in the music industry?
Get
ready to work hard. Talent is only the thing that kicks open the door. The rest
is having a business brain and thinking outside the square to get your head above
the masses. I know heaps of better singers than me but they sat on their hands
waiting for it to land in their lap. Unless some freak thing happens, get ready
to give 24/7. But it is fun if it is what your meant to do and always have fun.
Laugh - don't take your self too seriously. Try and enjoy life.
Any
news or final comments?
I just love writing about this awesome country
and characters I meet in my travels. So get ready for my brand new release to
radio and video, 'Feral Kev & General Leeroy'
