Los Vida Review

Los Vida Review

Los Vida bring to Sydney what so many other Mexican offerings lack: complete authenticity. Forget the Tex-Mex craze that engulfed Sydney with its heavy and stodgy meals. Los Vida is classic Latin American food that is simple, elegant and healthy.

We were invited to try some items from the menu at the Los Vida restaurant at The Wintergarden. Let us assure you that by the end of the meal, we didn’t require food for the next 24 hours after a highly satisfying and filling meal.

From the moment we sat down, we were greeted by friendly staff who went out of their way to look after us. We were given a starter, Guacamole with Totopos, while we licked our lips in anticipation of what was to come. This consisted of delicious thin corn chips which were dipped in avocado, lime, coriander, garlic, chilli, paprika & jicama with pomegranate. The party in our mouths had begun!

Next to hit our table were the ceviches (seafood dishes). The Scallops Aguachile consisted of scallops, cucumber, red onion, jicama, and serrano chilli while the Prawn came with tomato sauce, citrus vinaigrette, cucumber, jicama and coriander. These were absolutely mouth-watering and prepared us for the Tacos that were to follow.

The list of Tacos on the menu include Chicken, Beef, Lamb, Pork, Fish, Mushroom, Rajas, Yucatan Fish, and Chipotle Prawn. The ones we tried were finger-licking good but we recommend asking for a rack of Tacos. For $30, you’ll get to try seven of them – quality taste at a bargain price!

We had Hibiscus Flower Flautas for the main. This consisted of four pieces of crispy hibiscus flowers with tasty cheese, wrapped in crunchy corn tortillas and salsa verde with queso fresco. If you like it cheesy, literally, then this is the meal for you. By now we were floored but there was more to come.

Some sides, Patatas Bravas (delicious fried and sweet potatoes) and Grilled Corn (on a cob), then made their way to our table along with a delicious Watermelon Salad which was just scrumptious. We were in heaven by this point and ready to call it a night but no, apparently we just HAD to try some dessert!

And out came the Bunuelos (pecan and cinnamon bunuelos with coffee anglaise) followed by a Chocolate Tart (ancho chilli and date). Thankfully we stuck around as the dessert was just divine and topped the evening off perfectly.

Being our first ever visit, we had no expectations coming in but walked out knowing with certainty that we would be coming back for more! Highly recommended!
