Ash Moss, Bass Player in Mercy Arms
How
did you get your start in the music industry?
I started as a young little
boy, in my room, with a thrive for the deep groove that is bass guitar. I then
decided I would quit being a nerd linger and focus on becoming a serious musician.
I was lucky that the musician part came about!
Best part of the
job?
Being able to travel and write and play music and especially to meet
new and interesting people from all over the place. It's funny - everyone you
meet has a story of when they were once in a band, which is always interesting.
Worst
part of the job?
Driving for hours!
Any interesting experiences
you can share?
I have so many, it's a hard question! Although I am staying
with Ghostwood in London at the moment, so I have a new one each night. Catching
the car ferry across the English Channel was really cool; all kinds of huge semi-trailers
and other trucks are all lined up in this huge boat that takes you over to France.
I got lost trying to find our van once we got across the channel and there were
so many trucks in the way speeding by to leave in a hurry. I was kind of scared;
I felt like a young kid that lost his parents at a theme park, except I didn't
start crying and yelling out 'mummy'! I finally found the van and then we drove
all the way through Europe as far as Norway all safe and sound.
Favourite
CD of all time and why?
I have many favourite records. I listen to a lot
of early Chris Isaak but also think Roland S. Howard-Teenage Snuff Film is a really
brilliant record.
Tell us about the best live show that you ever saw?
I saw The Cure last year, which was really amazing. Also a German band call Bohren
& De Club Of Gore, but of course our dear friends Cut Copy in Oslo, Norway
was one of the most fun shows I've been a part of - they are so great!
Favourite
bars/clubs/pubs to hang out in?
There are too many around. My most favourite
is what house we end up after the night!
What advice would you give to
someone looking at getting involved in the
music industry?
Have fun
with it and appreciate what you have all the time.
Take us through a
typical "day in the life of Mercy Arms".
Wake up just past midday,
then off to rehearsal, then we may have a show so we get picked up in a van which
we then load our gear into, then off to soundcheck for the show. After soundcheck,
get ready and then go onstage. I can never predict what happens after the show
but I always try to have fun.
