With concerns that the minimum Australian standards for mathematics
and numeracy skills at the primary and high school levels are too low, it is imperative
that we give our children a strong start in learning the basics. Australian company
Handband has released a new product, Multibandz, which is designed to make learning
maths easy and fun. Now kids won't even realise they're exercising their minds
when they're playing with their Multibandz!
Learning the times
tables can be an arduous task - and it's one that most of us dreaded when we were
kids. Unfortunately, when children struggle with their times tables they can develop
a long held dislike for mathematics. Multibandz are designed to make learning
the times tables a fun and rewarding task.
"There are
concerns that a significant proportion of Australian students are not achieving
the minimum standard benchmarks in the state and territory assessments of numeracy
in Years 3, 5 and 7," commented Michael Randall, Co-founder of Handband.
"We believe that Multibandz can help children to start
off with a strong foundation in multiplication which, along with skills in addition
and subtraction, are essential in order to progress with their schooling."
Comprising
twelve thin, multicoloured silicone wrist bands, the Multibandz set of brightly
coloured bands are all printed with different units of the multiplication times
tables. Multibandz have been designed to encourage children to learn in a fun
and innovative way, by keeping children interested and involved in their learning.
Multibandz includes a milestone rewards system, whereby the 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x and
10x tables all glow and the 11x tables are metallic silver, while the 12x tables
are gold.
Parents and teachers can also help children create
new games and ways to learn using their Multibandz, with the end goal for kids
being to 'go for gold' and get up to learning their 12x tables.
Children
can start with the 1 times table band and then move onto the next wristband, working
up the times table chart. They can swap the bands with friends and test each others
knowledge. There's now no need to have times table posters on the bedroom or bathroom
wall - the Multibandz learning tool is always there - hanging around their wrists
- so their learning can be subtly but regularly reinforced.
"Multibandz
are not just a wonderful learning aid for parents, they're also are a great way
for schools to introduce multiplication into the classroom and into the curriculum,"
Mr Randall added.
"We have already received rave reviews
from parents and teachers alike, with some schools purchasing up to 50 or more
sets of bands at a time for use in maths classes. The great thing is that all
the children we hear back from love using them and find that they make maths 'cool'
and fun," he concluded.
