NO
ICE CREAM FOR MUSCLES
I
was sitting backstage with Muscles drinking scotch straight up out of a silver
flask. When we got stuck trying to think of the word that scotch does to your
vocals so you can sing without it crackling like a rock singer's, finally it came
to me - 'Lubricated'. 'Yeah' he said, 'that's exactly it - lubricated.'
We
(being the crew, modular and myself) probably could have sat there downing scotch
for another good hour talking trash. But the fans were waiting and we all know
fans don't like to be kept waiting, We left Muscles to himself for a few minutes
to gather his thoughts, before his set and walk out to the stage area to watch
the show. Towels in hand, he walked onto the steaming stage to a screaming audience.
Muscles'
energy was electrifying and although the crowd was small (this was the Mona Vale
hotel after all), he drew the crowd in close and busted out tracks from his new
EP for the Girl crazy Go tour. The high voltage result Muscles received in response
to his performance lad to one dude in the crowd ripping off his shirt and launching
himself on a couple of others to do the shoulder ride thing.
His
classic song 'Ice Cream' was very much endeared. When you think back, this boy
has accomplished so much already in his music career - number 1 track on the ARIA
dance charts, number 3 track on the Australian chart. I think this EP is simply
a sign of things to come. So far, he has played with artists Justice, M.I.A.,
Digitalism and MSTRKRFT and done remixes for stars like Robyn, as well as a few
unofficial ones.
By the end of his set, Muscles was dripping
with sweat, which I believe would be blamed on the 'Ice Cream' track because the
temperature in the room started rising and rising when he banged that one out.
He took a little time to cool down getting photos with fans and signing CDs and
T-shirts. We did consider acquiring some ice creams but he decided scotch would
be a better idea. I agreed.
