MUSICOZ AWARDS WRAP-UP
Our
burgeoning independent and unsigned musical talent swarmed over the 17 Musicoz
awards which were announced on Tuesday 9th December at Sydney's Home Nightclub.
The competition was swollen with talent from categories including metal, pop,
rock, urban, Christian, instrumental, acoustic singer songwriter, classical and
best live artist. The weight of Australia's unsigned talent was measured, merited
and floated from the shoulders of Musicoz in a gratifying stretch of diverse performances.
The
Transients opened the night, bursting the awards bubble with a killer rendition
of their track 'One Day'. Crowned as the Artists of the Year and hailed as the
next big thing to bloat the electro scene, their distinctive sound is a prime
example of evolving dance culture. All eyes (and ears) will be on this emerging
effervescence in the coming year.
The simmering surface of
Musicoz gave rise to plenty more bubbles that night. Rounded rockers COG saturated
the competition claiming the Best Rock Artist and Songwriter titles. The people
chose Juke Kartel for their award. The Vanguarde were named Best Unsigned Video
artists. Hip-hop heavy BuKKcity took out Urban Artist of the year rapping his
track 'Nobody Wanted This' in luxury style. King Farook seized the Alternative
title in a notorious display of some super funky shit from their album '4 Piece
Feed'. Acoustic Singer Songwriter of the year Stephanie Cherote delivered a shining
performance with banjo and lucid vocals to coalesce a pristine atmosphere ready
for rupturing by the final instalment to the night's lineup - the Live artists
of the year, Mammal.
Those who've seen the stroke of the aural
underground knew the awards were set to close with a big fat bang. Those who hadn't
had little choice but to warm up to the vigour of their insane live antics. Roaring
"Fuck this barrier," frontman Ezekiel Ox leapt into the audience turning
the entire room into his stage. Just thought they'd make it crystal clear why
they won. Yes long live rock n roll. Long live putting on a goddamn show. Long
live the mammal species.
The afterparty boiled away long into
the night with more performances and party pleasures. Bubble, bubble, bubble.
Yes please, another glass of bubbles.
