NYC NewsdayPILOBOLUS, one of the worlds greatest dance companies, will present a Sydney only fourteen performance premiere season at Sydney Theatre, Walsh Bay, from May 5 to 17, 2009. It will bring a rich divergent program of five singular works to Walsh Bay. The company is celebrated for its astonishing feats of balance, strength, humour and polish, has performed in 62 countries, more than one hundred shows a year including the 2007 Academy Awards and the Oprah Winfrey show. It was founded by four Dartmouth graduates in 1971 and is based in Washington Depot, Connecticut. Pilobolus (crystallinus) is a phototropic zygomycete - a sun-loving fungus that grows in barnyards and pastures. The Sydney program includes Darkness and Light, a collaboration with puppeteer Basil Twist and Piolobuls's Robby Barnett and Jonathan Wolken, which brings shadow play to the stage. It is an engrossing work celebrated for its astonishing feats of balance, strength, humour and polish. Megawatt, set to music by Primus, Radiohead and Squarepusher, promises to be a breathtaking display by the full company group of their physical endurance and prowess. Symbiosis is a male and female duet, which traces the birth of a relationship between two creatures sinuously and sensuously intertwined. Pseudopodia is a tumbling tumbleweed male dancer solo set to an all-percussion score. Rushes, is by two Israeli choreographers, Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak, working with one of the company's founding figures, Robby Barnett.
