POLAROID FAME
How
did you get your start in the music industry?
Studying
contemporary music at a conservatorium.
Best part of
the job?
Recording. Being able to create & play music
for sure. And then having the opportunity to perform that music. Losing yourself
in that zone & having it appreciated is really the ultimate thing for any
artist.
Worst part of the job?
I
enjoy most of the things that come with it. I guess the logistical side of carrying
all your gear in & out of venues wears thin pretty quick. Those amps don't
seem to get any lighter.
Favourite CD of all time and why?
Prince
& The Revolution (Purple Rain). It was the first music I remember connecting
with & comparing my own life & feelings with. I'd load it up in my walkman
& jump on my BMX & just ride around for hours singing along to the tracks
& in disbelief by how much it all made sense. I actually won a fancy dress
party dressing up as Prince. Mum & all her girlfriends dressed me up when
I was a little squirt. Such cool times.
Tell us about the
best live show that you ever saw?
Speaking of Prince, I've
seen him twice & both times he has totally blown me away. But I think he just
gets pipped at the post. Michael Jackson's concert was the best live show I've
ever seen. I spent the whole concert pinching myself & in tears. He appeared
out of this capsule on stage & stood there like a robot & went into hit
after hit. I can't begin to explain it. My words can't do any justice to what
I witnessed that night.
Favourite bars/clubs/pubs to hang
out in?
I enjoy checking out new bars/clubs in the cities
when we have shows there. My favourite pub would have to be the local in Mullum.
You go down there, shoot some pool, have a few beers with mates & put shitloads
of money in the jukebox. It's really cool as the film clip comes up on screen
to the song you choose. It's always a wobbly ride home on the bike humming some
epic pop song from the eighties.
Take us through a typical
"day in the life of Polaroid Fame".
I would have
to lie to make this answer sound interesting. An early surf before work is actually
amazing & not taken for granted. The best part of the weekdays are a concoction
of all the things we've become comfortable with - coffee, emails, phone calls,
text messages. The band stuff is crazy as we are self managed & it is starting
to take up so much time which turns into a comedy act trying to juggle it with
our day jobs. Cooking (I'm in hospitality - yay!). All the magic is in the evenings.
Playing, listening to music, nude runs, howling at full moons & amazing orgies.
What
advice would you give to someone looking at getting involved in the music industry?
Go
for it, have fun & let go.
