Conveniently located in the centre of Westfield Sydney, Ragu Pasta & Wine Bar has fast become the go-to venue for freshly prepared, classic Italian favourites for city workers, shoppers and visitors alike.
Inspired by the typical regional Italian bars, visitors can relax and unwind at Ragu’s long counter bar and enjoy the charming atmosphere. The mosaic covered bar and dining area, complete with exclusive seating, give the venue its own unique vibe, distinct from the bustling food court that surrounds. It really immerses diners in an Italian experience to savour.
The extensive display of fresh pasta, colourful salads and mouth-watering antipasto plates are perfectly complemented by the beautifully curated wine list, with wines available by the glass, bottle and carafe of course. On our visit, we thought we’d start with the Bruschetta – Italian wood fired bread, chopped roma tomato, onion, basil, and extra virgin olive oil. It was the perfect light snack before getting into the heavier mains that were to follow.
The menu offers a complete range of pasta and pasta sauces, enabling guests to create their own dish. There’s short pasta, long pasta, filled pasta, gluten-free pasta and an endless list of sauces ranging from napoli, gorgonzola and amatriciana to puttanesca and pesto. We tried the spaghetti (long pasta) with ragu sauce (tomato, beef, pork mince, and extra virgin olive oil). As big fans of spaghetti bolognaise, we certainly weren’t disappointed. It was fresh, it was delicious, and it was highly filling. We also sampled the sorrentina sauce (cherry tomato, bocconcini, and basil) – a simple yet belly-warming dish. All of the food appears to be prepared fresh with nothing pre-made beforehand assuring diners of the highest quality meals with a distinct Italian flair.
Ragu’s traditional Italian panini’s are another popular option that disappear fast and are great for lunch on the go. They also have a very impressive salad menu: cold pasta salad, caprese salad, octopus salad, sweet potato salad, rocket salad, quinoa salad, lentil salad, barley salad, chickpea salad, and cous cous. You’d be hard-pressed not to find something that appeals to your tastes. There are also regular weekly specials, showcasing seasonal dishes and new flavours, ensuring there is always something different to try.
Ragu offer the much-loved Italian staple ‘happy hour’ from 3-6pm every evening, excluding Sundays, with a wonderful variety of homemade nibbles on offer that are made for sharing over a glass or two of wine. With the increased night time demand, Ragu are also open for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, offering the perfect venue for a post-shopping treat, after-work drinks, or before a movie or show.
