SAMANTHA JADE
How
did you get your start in the music industry?
My demo
was heard by a U.S production company who flew me to LA to write and record with
various artists and producers in 2003.
Best part of
the job?
Working with all the amazing producers and writers
in the U.S. and Europe. I have been fortunate to work with some of the best in
the world and people I have admired like Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins (Darkchild),
Max Martin, Wyclef Jean. It's been an incredible journey.
Worst
part of the job?
Being away from family and friends is
definitely the biggest sacrifice.
Any interesting experiences
you can share?
When I was in LA, I was invited to sing
the U.S national anthem at the Staples Centre for an LA Lakers basketball game.
That was an amazing experience and an honour. I'm looking forward to singing the
Aussie anthem one day!
Favourite CD of all time and why?
I
have so many! I love powerhouse singers like Mariah and Whitney and great songwriters
and producers too. I would have to say Michael Jackson's 'Bad' album is a favourite,
there are so many classic, great hits on one record and I never get bored of hearing
his songs.
Tell us about the best live show that you ever
saw?
Christina Aguilera - Back to Basics tour. Her vocal
ability is incredible - she is one of my favourite artists.
Favourite
bars/clubs/pubs to hang out in?
In LA, I like to go to
House of Blues to see live shows. When I'm in Perth, I visit Harry's Bar which
is also a live music venue and in Sydney, I love the Basement.
Take
us through a typical "day in the life of Samantha Jade".
At
the moment I am on the road promoting my new single, 'Secret' so I am up early
preparing for a day of interviews and meetings with my PR team. We have been visiting
a lot of radio stations and I have been performing my single for people too. I
have been doing a lot of photo shoots for press as well. The days have been long
and they usually include dinner with industry representatives from TV and radio
to talk about the single and upcoming album. I love being busy!
What
advice would you give to someone looking at getting involved in the music industry?
Be
passionate and committed, it can be a long journey but if you stay positive and
have a good team of people you can trust around you, it is very rewarding. Don't
let celebrity status change you - you have to stay grounded and real.
