Shannon Keays DOB: Just scraped into the 70s! 31 May 1979 Position/Company: Publicist at Two Fish Out of Water How did you get your start in the music industry? As they say, it's all about who you know! I have a background in radio and studied film production and music management. But in the end, it came down to volunteering to make tea and coffee that got me where I am! A complete obsession with Australian bands helped along the way, too. Best part of the job? Being taken remotely seriously when I approach musos like a groupie when I'm out. And getting to talk and think about music all day and get paid for it. Worst part of the job? Waiting, waiting, waiting for days, even weeks, to hear back from editors and radio stations when requesting interviews. And being called a stalker! Any interesting experiences you can share? My first ever ARIAs this year was insane! Going down the red carpet with The Beautiful Girls, feeling like a kid in a lolly shop at the ceremony with eyes wide the whole time, meeting Chris Cheney at the after party (he's a doll), and then riding with Wolfmother in their limo back to the city and talking to Kim from The Presets on the phone after it all was a nice way to top it off! Plus I think working at the Falls Festival this New Years will be Aussie Gold, too. Favourite CD of all time and why? What kind of a question is that?! How about the whole catalogue of The Beatles. Tell us about the best live show that you ever saw? For the whole experience it would have to be seeing Groove Armada at the Brixton Academy in London, December 2002. I was there with pretty much all of my best friends from London and back home, and that very special disco ball moment in the chorus of 'Easy' was outta this world awesome. An incredible and over the top touch that won me over for life. Favourite bars/clubs/pubs to hang out in? Purple Sneakers (Pash Palace) at the Abercrombie Hotel on Friday nights! Bin Bang Bong is another great party. Of course the Townie has its moments too What advice would you give to someone looking at getting involved in the music industry? Work experience! Get yourself out there and show some initiative, the excitement of being in an environment like that is a huge motivational force to do whatever you can to be paid to hang out and live and breathe music all day long. And keep up to date with what's going on in the local scene, read the street press like the bible each week. Danny Canak
