Following an acclaimed
EP release and time spent working their way around the live music scene, Sydney
based indie-rock outfit Sierra Fin will release their debut album 'Cautionary
Tale of the Beautiful Blackout' on May 6, before kicking off an East Coast tour
with dates in Sydney on May 12, Melbourne on May 26 and Brisbane on May 27.
'Cautionary
Tale of the Beautiful Blackout' tells a story from Yesterday through Today to
Tomorrow and features a full symphony orchestra as accompaniment for the album's
entirety - adding layers of texture to the Paul McKercher (Sarah Blasko, Little
Birdy) produced album and marking a first for an Australian debut album release.
Their album vision was further aided when renowned Australian conductor
Guy Noble agreed to conduct what was dubbed the Sierra Fin Symphony Orchestra,
and handpicked the orchestra from some of Australia's finest musicians. And so,
with over six months of preparation, 'Cautionary Tale of the Beautiful Blackout'
was recorded in a mere five days, with a further eight days to mix the vast quantity
of instruments.
As Sierra Fin are self confessed lovers of albums as complete
bodies of work (not just a collection of songs), 'Cautionary Tale of the Beautiful
Blackout' is intended be played as a complete work. It tells the story of a man
so beaten down by the treadmill of life that he is utterly numb and cut off from
the world.
Sierra Fin will launch 'Cautionary Tale of the Beautiful Blackout'
on May 12 at Notes in Sydney's Enmore where they'll be bringing a small version
of the Sierra Fin Symphony Orchestra to help perform the album in its entirety
and recreate its depth and textured sound. They will then be taking their show
to Melbourne and Brisbane with details as follows:
