Society Di Catania is a new take on Italian dining that combines urban style with bold Sicilian flavours and a prominent Potts Point location.
With his Bondi pizzeria already a local institution, Jonathan Faro has opened a new bar-restaurant concept in Potts Point designed to bring the vitality of Catania to Sydney. His approach is classically Sicilian, respecting authentic techniques and flavours but bold and individualistic in its style.
Unlike his Bondi store, this is bar, wine-room, cucina and pizzeria in one. Society Di Catania is relaxed, energetic and fun, but thoughtfully distinctive at the same time. Signature pizza dishes are offered alongside handmade pastas, chargrilled meats and seafood with characteristic salmoriglio dressings and classic Italian dolce. The wine list completes the experience with Sicilian varietals like Nero D’Avola and Nerello Mascalese front and centre.
Every aspect of Society Di Catania is designed to generate a response, from the oversized art that features classic Italian hand gestures with insightfully matched tattoos, to the artisan gin and cocktail list, pumping music or intensely flavoured osso buco ragu, Marcantonio pizza and gnocchi con funghi.
Jonathan’s Marco Polo cocktail balances ginger and guava with vodka and lemon to create a light and refreshing after-hours drink, or there’s the Espresso Rocher at the other end of the spectrum – a naughty but oh-so-nice dessert cocktail. Society Di Catania is an experience in every sense.
The restaurant’s space offers a relaxed atmosphere, and minimalistic interior design with nods to modern Italian style including Missoni wall hangings. The layout features a horseshoe shape that includes large communal dining tables, a sleek white marble pizza bar and smaller bar-side tables for intimate get togethers.
