WILL
IT BE FUNNY TOMORROW, BILLY?
A Kind Of Music Memoir
BY STEPHEN CUMMINGS
Stephen
Cummings has been on the Australian music scene for decades - he first achieved
success as lead singer with The Sports, a pop band that had a number of hits in
the late '70s, including the classic 'Who Listens to the Radio?', and embarked
on a solo career after their demise.
Since those early high-flying
days, Cummings has carved out a niche for himself as an original, somewhat idiosyncratic
performer, a producer of milestone albums and a writer of fine, intelligent songs.
'Will
It Be Funny Tomorrow, Billy?' is Cummings' collection of memoirish essays - anecdotes
of his childhood, of traipsing the streets of Melbourne looking for life and music;
of being humiliated in front of Mick Jagger in New York; of getting older and
developing back problems (and seeing shiatsu Nazis); of the internal politics
of rock bands (and the cold-hearted sackings of drummers); of the Countdown days;
of losing his virginity; of his longstanding enemy, Michael Gudinski, and their
Niagara Falls incident; and of becoming a parent and understanding his own parents.
Cummings
wears his heart on his sleeve, writing with wit and affection about love, family
and his passion for music. Funny, insightful and thought provoking, 'Will It Be
Funny Tomorrow, Billy?' will take you on a ride through Cummings' neuroses and
keen observations of all things music.
