LATEST NEWS…BIG DAY OUT 2012: THE LOWDOWN: Big Day Out is amongst one of the most recognised festivals in the world. Returning to Sydney on Australia Day with headliners such as Soundgarden and Kanye West, organisers had a few other tricks up their sleeve. Entertainment didn't just present itself in the form of live music; pro skater Tony Hawk was in fine form, proving that he can still shred in his early forties. Australian bands Stonefield and Frenzal Rhomb did their nation proud on Australia Day being noted as some of the highlights of the day. For New Zealand, it was Big Day Out's last hoorah as the festival has already announced it will not be returning. Despite good reviews, attendance numbers are dropping. In 2010 Big Day attracted over 337,000 fans, last year's shows drew 300,000 punters, while this year the festival sold just over 173,000 tickets…SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH: After a 33 year break from releasing an album, Black Sabbath announced their comeback fittingly on the 11/11/11. The original band members are set to record a new studio album - their first with Ozzy Osbourne since 1978. Since the announcement, it seems as though black magic has plagued the band. Tony Iommi was diagnosed with lymphoma last month resulting in relocating recording sessions to London and pulling out of a planned Coachella headlining slot. Now it is drummer Bill Ward who seems to be having management difficulties after releasing a long statement indicating he will not be apart of the reunion unless he is offered a "signable contract" that "reflects some dignity and respect toward me as an original member of the band." Let's hope Ward gets the contract he desires so they can get on with it and we get Sabbath back…JACK WHITE ANNOUNCES DEBUT SOLO ALBUM: Almost a year ago, Jack & Meg White shattered the music world announcing that they would no longer be recording or performing live together. A man who will never remain silent has just unveiled his new solo single 'Love Interruption' and announced the release of his debut solo album. The 23rd of April marks the date of White's return when his debut solo album 'Blunderbuss' hits the shelves. Produced by White at his Third Man Studio in Nashville, White describes 'Blunderbuss' as "an album I couldn't have released until now… I've put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colours on my own canvas."…TRIPLE J'S HOTTEST 100: Another Australia Day means another Hottest 100 count down, an event that most musically minded Australians listen to. With 44 local songs on the list, it seems that home grown music is a force to be reckoned with. O r is it that we are growing even more patriotic as a nation? My trust lies in the talent. It comes as no surprise that Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used to Know' claimed the number one position, closely followed by The Black Keys with 'Lonely Boy' coming in second and Australian Idol's prize possession, Matt Corby's 'Brother' being voted number three. The voting process is a long and stressful journey; I admire the people who have the time to contribute to an event that makes Australia Day one hell of a party…THE BRONX SIDE PROJECT: For those who have not seen or heard of The Bronx, you would not believe that Mariachi El Bronx are their side project - that is if the Bronx part at the end doesn't give it away for you. The Bronx supported Soundgarden at Sydney Entertainment Centre just an hour before performing their own Big Day Out sideshow as Mariachi El Bronx. Matt Caughthran's voice transition is surprisingly sweet. They performed in front of a full house at The Metro Theatre, a place they stated as their home venue in Sydney. Completely stripped of rebellion and their punk rock style, they have stayed true to the Southern Californian origin with their heavy Mariachi influence obvious, dressed to the nines in traditional Mariachi costume. One must witness both live acts for themselves, depending on your mood at the time…COACHELLA 2012: Coachella's line up is enough to make one physically and emotionally sick with either excitement (if you had the cash to buy flights and tickets) or depression if you are dirt poor and committed to work or study Down Under. Coachella is held in Indio, California around the end of April each year. This year, a second weekend has been added, but we all know the first weekend is the one you want to be at. Headlining this mammoth bill are The Black Keys, Radiohead, Dr Dre and Snoop Dog. If you are already foaming at the mouth, check out the full line up. It is an upper to some but a downer to most who cannot make it. www.coachella.com...THE MAN IN BLACK - THE JOHNNY CASH STORY: Being a Cash fan from way back and having already toured with The Johnny Cash Story in 2010 and 2011, Tex Perkins & The Tennessee Four are returning showcasing two hours of Cash's legendary music interwoven with the story of his rise to fame, his struggle for survival, and his eventual redemption. Both Cash and Perkins have the baritone voices making Perkins the perfect candidate to perform faithful renditions of Cash's hits while he tells Cash's story in the third person between songs. Perkins' 27 years in the industry has equipped him with one hell of a back catalogue, with a capturing stage presence and voice similar to the man himself. Who else should pay homage to Johnny Cash but Tex Perkins?...VICE LAUNCH CHATEAU RDIO: Get two words - radio and audio, join them together and you get Rdio: pronounced ar-dee-o. Rdio could actually be the best thing since sliced bread. It is the ground-breaking digital music service that connects people with music and makes it easy to search for and instantly play any song, album, artist or playlist without ever hearing a single ad. With all of Australia now having access to Rdio's 12 million+ songs, Vice helped kick off the official Australian Launch at Beach Rd Hotel in Bondi. Being solely about the music, you could find a DJ in every room or a free drink at every bar…A TRIBUTE TO SOUL SISTERS: Sydney singers Jo Elms, Liza Ohlback and Kim Hart are back by popular demand after sell-out performances of their "First Ladies of Soul" tour in June 2011. The women are returning to Notes Live in Newtown after a successful show last year, but will feature more artists this time around, like Freda Payne, Gladys Knight, Natalie Cole, Randy Crawford and Roberta Flack. If you dig deep funk and raunchy blues, you better get in quick as there are only two "First Ladies of Soul" performances: Friday 10 February at Lizottes, 629 Pittwater Road Dee Why at 8:30pm. Tickets are $30 + booking fee. For bookings ph\ne: 9984 9933, online: www.lizottes.com.au. Saturday 11 February at Notes Live, 75 Enmore Road, Newtown at 8:45pm. Tickets are $30 + booking fee. On a still, sunny News Years Day way back in 1999, a few thousand die-hard revellers gathered in the auspicious surrounds of Melbourne's Sidney Myer Music Bowl to herald the start of a new year and the beginning of what would quickly grow to become a world-famous event, Summadayze …

As each year passed, this unique 12-hour dance music celebration attracted bigger international DJ lineups, bigger production budgets, and much, much bigger crowds.

Now, in 2010, having already taken Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth by storm, Australia's premier dance music experience, Summadayze, is finally coming to Sydney.

Descending upon Home's legendary waterfront location on December 31, 2009, Sydney's inaugural Summanights celebration promises to be a dazzling, firework-filled, harbour-side New Years Eve party the likes of which the Olympic city has never experienced before.

Complete with indoor and outdoor terraces, spectacular views of the city's iconic Darling Harbour and a prime selection of the world's leading electronic artists; Summanights will see all three levels of Home transformed to create an intimate, plush and truly unforgettable New Years Eve clubbing experience.

SUMMANIGHTS ARTIST LINE-UP:

Sharam (Deep Dish) - USA

As one half of the all-conquering Deep Dish duo alongside Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia, Sharam Tayebi has reached heights that few DJ/Producers can only dream of. An artist of rare and exceptional talent, his DJ sets are famed for captivating club crowds from Miami to Ibiza, while his solo productions (including 2006's monster hit 'P.A.T.T (Party Al The Time)) continue to break new ground and consistently find their way into the CD wallets and record crates of the world's DJing elite. From his acclaimed Global Underground compilation 'Dubai' and his highly anticipated forthcoming artist album 'Get Wild', to his daily duties looking after a trio of coveted co-owned labels with Ali (Yoshitoshi Recordings, Deep Dish Records and Shinichi Recordings); Sharam is a revered electronic music trendsetter that has stood the test of time and forges the future with every studio session he completes and every upfront tune he drops.

Eddie Halliwell - UK

There are very few DJs on the planet who inspire crowds of hedonistic punters to raucously chant their name before, during and after their sets ... UK Trance legend is Eddie Halliwell is one of them. Championed by the dancefloor to become one of the biggest breakthrough DJ talents in the world, Eddie Halliwell's rise to notoriety over the last few years has been equally as swift and impressive as it has been hard earned and well deserved. Possessing sublime technical skills and an uncanny ability to make dancefloors erupt across the globe, he's a veteran of no less than seven BBC Radio One Essential Mixes, a regular fixture in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJ poll and an even more popular fixture at Cream's Amnesia residency in Ibiza ... and this speaks nothing of his new, hotly anticipated DJing concept 'ED-IT'.

Josh Wink - USA

Born and bred in Philadelphia and DJing since he was just 13 years of age, for the last two decades America's Josh Wink has maintained his position as one of the world's true pioneers of Techno, House and genre-blurring electronic music styles. The underground genius responsible for seminal tracks like 'Higher State Of Consciousness', 'Liquid Summer', 'Don't Laugh' and 'Have To Get Back', the mastermind behind leading label 'Ovum Recordings', and a seasoned veteran of multiple artist albums (including most recently, 'When A Banana Was Just A Banana' in 2009); Josh Wink is a bonafide founding forefather of EDM as we know it today and, more importantly, one that has carved a unique niche for himself by passionately and relentlessly taking trends, making trends and breaking trends.

Mark Knight - UK

Plucked from the relative obscurity of life as a fully-fledged carpenter just a few short years ago, in 2009 UK DJ/Producer Mark Knight now commands a thriving EDM empire that comprises one of the world's premier labels ('Toolroom Records'), one of its finest and most extensive discographies, and one of its most successful DJs and Producers in recent times … himself! Championed worldwide for his high octane DJ sets that weave effortlessly in and out of genres to forge a sound that is distinctively his and his alone, Mark is an astute music collector and technically gifted performer whose skills are consistently in-demand in every corner of the world. As a Producer, however, he has few equals. Regularly called upon to remix the biggest names in the world and infamous for the consistently brilliant nature of his studio works (which include classics like 'Insatiable', 'The Reason' and 'Just Trippin'), Mark Knight's name has grown synonymous with quality, musicality and dancefloor accessibility. Under his watchful eye 'Toolroom Records' continues to grow from strength to strength and this year alone celebrated not only 100 releases but, impressively, wining the mantle of 'The Most Downloaded Label' in the coveted Beatport awards.

Tom Novy - GER

With a string of worldwide hits to his name, multiple TV appearances to his credit, several world-renowned club residencies under his belt and numerous underground anthems in his discography; it's fair to say that Germany's Tom Novy has influenced nearly every corner of the electronic music industry and landscape. A celebrated DJ equipped with over 18 years experience of playing the world's leading venues, festivals and events, Tom first rose to global notoriety via his chart-topping tune 'I House You' back in 1995 and has since gone on to pen the anthemic likes of 'Lovin' U', 'Your Body', 'Pumpin' and 'Runaway'. With remixes for superstars like Ludacris, Erick Morillo, Tom Jones and The Backstreet Boys in his discography and an epic 12-year residency at Ibiza's legendary Space on his resume, the notoriously fun-loving and cheerful prankster, Tom Novy, is just as the title of his 2006 artist album suggests: a superstar.

Don Diablo - NED

As a prolific and successful producer, insanely popular globetrotting DJ, intrepid label boss and the most Googled man in Holland in 2008; four-deck wizard and all-around dude, Don Diablo, is a gifted musician who's clearly on the path to greatness. Renowned for writing tunes that top charts and get snaffled up by TV shows like 'CSI: NY' (and ad campaigns for films like 'Snakes On A Plane'), and lauded for remixing enormous artists like Public Enemy, Kraak & Smaak and Laidback Luke; this flying Dutchman is currently producing part of UK rapper Example's new album in between rocking gigs all over the planet and concentrating on his next album for Sony/BMG worldwide. Fresh, bold and spontaneous, Don Diablo's DJ sets are famed for comprising a barrage of exclusive edits and bootlegs, and further championed for their frenetic energy, technical mastery and spur of the moment insanity.

Menno de Jong - NED

Hailed as the next challenger to the Dutch Trance throne, podcast pioneer Menno de Jong has fast become one of the genre's genuine global heroes, innovators and inspirations. At just 24 years old, this exciting DJ and dynamic Production wunderkind has already stormed into the DJ Mag Top 100, toured over 25 countries, represented a who's who of the planets biggest Trance brands (including Godskitchen, Cream, Sensation and Gatecrasher) and signed tunes (including the likes of 'Guanxi', 'Magma' and 'Tundra') to labels the ilk of Anjunabeats and Fundamental. Throw in the fact that this phenomenal young EDM talent is also the brains behind, and found of, seminal Trance label 'Intuition' and it's easy to see why many tip the name 'Menno de Jong' to be headlining the world's biggest booths and stages for decades to come.

The Shapeshifters - UK

Comprising the silky production talents of West London-based Simon Marlin and Max Reich, The Shapeshifters are esteemed purveyors of big room House who have released a steady string of Top Ten hits for coveted labels like Positiva and Defected. Bursting on the scene with their #1 classic 'Lola's Theme' back in 2004, this dynamic duo have gone on to throw down signature club anthems the ilk of 'Back To Basics', 'Incredible', 'Treadstone' and a clever reworking of The Orb's iconic 'Chime'. Firm favourites on the world's premier download site, Beatport, they've remixed legends like George Michael, Faithless, Christina Aguilera and Moby, and regularly tour the world delivering DJ sets of distinction - including those at their latest residency at Pacha, Ibiza and their very own 'Nocturnal' parties which they run alongside their distinguished label, 'Nocturnal Grooves'.

Evil Nine - UK

With two full-length artist albums ('You Can Be Special Too' and 'They Live') to their credit, a sought-after 'Fabric Live' mix CD to their name, and a longstanding reputation for being one of Adam Freeland's 'Marine Parade' imprint's brightest artists, UK bass and beats duo, Evil Nine, have been tearing up dancefloors since 1998. Regularly citing 'post punk, italio disco, electro, classic power ballads, techno, kraut rock, yacht rock, hip hop and 80's electronic movie soundtracks' as inspiration for their unique musical attributes, this powerful production partnership comprises the forward-thinking talents and studio panache of Tom Beaufoy and Pat Pardy, and has spawned remixes for superstars like Ian Brown, NASA and The Temper Trap, and original hits like 'Restless', 'Pearl Shot' and 'Cakehole'.
