seventies BBC drama series, based on the novel by Terry Nation.
When a global virus wipes out most of the population,
those who survive are left to fend for themselves in a rapidly disintegrating
and increasingly violent world. Around the resolute Abby, a devoted
mother with a missing son, a group gradually gathers in a struggle for
survival. They include Greg, a loner, hiding the pain of his past; Anya,
a doctor who has seen too much; Al, a playboy who becomes surrogate
father to the young Najid; the attractive but spoilt Sarah and Tom,
handsome, urbane but unbeknownst to the others, a high security prisoner
before the virus hit.
Finding food and shelter are not their only concerns.
Rogue groups and individuals are taking advantage of the anarchy; the
only surviving government minister, Samantha Willis, is establishing
a ruthlessly controlled community and a fanatical group of scientists
will stop at nothing to find a vaccine. In a dangerous and isolated
world, the group must decide who to trust and just how to survive, as
they struggle with the trials of day-to-day existence and attempt to
build new lives…
