How did you get your start in the music industry?
Both Pottsy and I found ourselves in Tokyo around 7 years
ago travelling and working. In our downtime, we started writing songs and realised
we were on to something. This progressed into writing the EP which is out on itunes
called 'Wonderland City'. We both naturally gravitated to NYC where we really
started to develop our sound. In the summer of 2007-08, we got our first break
with doing a sponsored tour through Billabong around Australia which got a lot
of buzz. We moved back to the US and in July 09, we got approached by Universal/Motown
to sign a deal with them. This gave us the chance to record our full length album
with record producer David Kahne which will be released mid this year.
Best
part of the job?
The best part of our job is definitely
doing shows and connecting with fans. Doing what we love and creating something
that is unique and people can relate to.
Worst part of the
job?
The music industry has gone through the ringer the
last 5 years with all the changes. It's so unpredictable so when things are good,
they are really good. And when the pendulum swings the other way, it's very easy
to get down about things.
Favourite album of all time and
why?
That is a very tough question but a few to mention
would be "Revolver" - The Beatles. Love every song on this album. "Grace"
- Jeff Buckley. A true masterpiece. "Graceland" - Paul Simon. Love the
African style and it's such a refreshing album.
Tell us
about the best live show that you ever saw?
That also is
a tough question but I would have to say that Prince puts on an amazing show.
Also got to see Paul McCartney live in NY which was pretty inspiring as well.
Favourite
bars/clubs/pubs to hang out in?
In Sydney "Pocket
bar" and in NYC "Rose Bar"
Take us through
a typical "day in the life of Tamarama".
It changes
all the time, but at the moment, we working on the new album which is really exciting.
We have collaborated with Optus on an exciting project called YouTube/YouChoose
which celebrates choice and is giving the public the chance to go online and vote
for what they think we should do with a dilemma we have posted. Check it out at
www.youtube.com/optusyouchoose
What
advice would you give to someone looking at getting involved in the music industry?
Good
luck!
Any news or final comments?
We would love you guys to check out our video on www.youtube.com/optusyouchoose
and tell us what you think of our dilemma, post your comments and videos and tell
us what to do! There is an added incentive for YouTubers to become actively involved.
By uploading their own dilemma and decision videos, they automatically qualify
for the chance to win a $10,000 holiday package. And in a further celebration
of choice, the winner will be able to choose between an all expenses paid party
for two in Fiji OR around the world flights for two.
