Tiffani Wood
How did you get your start in the music industry?
I have been in the music industry since I was around 12 performing
with talent troupes across NSW, which then lead me to performing in
various cover bands since I was 18 til around 21 and then I auditioned
for the 1st Popstars show in 2000 and was selected as a member of
Bardot, and since Bardot's breakup in 2002 have been
a solo indie artist.
Best part of the job?
Being independent - it's great having creative control over my work
and look and pretty much everything I do. It's great meeting fans
of my music and also just performing is a buzz.
Worst part of the job?
A lot of the time, it's who you know - not what you know and funding
can be short at times.
Any interesting experiences you can share?
There's too many but one that sticks in my mind is when Bardot was
in Singapore. The fans over there were so full on and amazing. They'd
meet you at the airport, give you gifts, follow you around in taxis
everywhere, come to all the shows and were just so friendly. I can't
wait to get back there some day.
Favourite CD of all time and why?
Lionel Richie's 'The Best of collection' (2CD set). It has all his
songs on there and I just love ALL of them. I can play that CD over
and over and in fact have - hence the reason it's not playable anymore
because there's too many scratches.
Tell us about the best live show that you ever saw?
I went to the Prince concert in Sydney. That man is the king of everything...he's
sexy, a pocket rocket, can play guitar like a muther and that voice.
Not to mention the songwriting...the concert was just go go go and
the best I've seen by far.
Favourite bars/clubs/pubs to hang out in?
I'm pregnant at the moment so don't hang out in any but before it
would be UN as it has great house music and no smoking - along with
my partner working there :)
What advice would you give to someone looking at getting involved
in the
music industry?
Network and make contacts, get a good PR agency and make sure you
have a good professional body of work (eg, demos, photos and live
experience).
Take us through a typical "day in the life of Tiffani Wood".
There's no such thing as a typical day. I run my own label so I get
up in the morning, reply to my emails, check the forum is behaving
itself and then go to the post office with any CDs or info, etc I
have to post, follow up on gigs and speak with my agency and PR. If
I have a show coming up, I'll have rehearsals and organise people
for them, sometimes costume hunting and usually stop off for a Gloria
Jeans mint choc bomb. More computer work and then 4.30, I always make
sure I'm home to watch The Bold & The Beautiful. Check and reply
to emails again and sort myself out for what I have to do for the
next day, check the forum, MySpace and do some research on other artists,
etc, brainstorm up some performance or creative ideas, have dinner
and then play my album to double check all is good.
