One of the most eagerly awaited debut albums 'Sexor' by
Tiga has finally been unleashed! Described in some quarters as the 'male
Goldfrapp' in waiting, and taking inspiration from some of the world's
filthiest underground night spots, 'Sexor' lives up to its title. It
is a dirty beast of a record that sucks pleasure from the bass and a
whole lot more...
With a chart topping single, killer mix CD and a #44 placing
in the DJ Mag Top 100 Poll, 2005 has been a world-dominating year for
Canadian electro chameleon Tiga, but what follows, promises to be his
best yet.
A work five years in the making, the album features an
all-star cast of collaborators including Swedish techno whiz Jesper
Dahlback, Belgian uber producers Soulwax (aka occasional mash up kings
2Many DJs) and long-time friend Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters fame.
'Sexor' is a dirty beast of a record that pays homage to the past and
embraces the gloriously flirtatious future.
In typical style, Tiga draws on his myriad of musical
experiences and influences to weave a cohesive tapestry of atmosphere,
funk and fun. In the Nine Inch Nails-inspired 'Down in it', Tiga replaces
Trent Reznor's bass-heavy industrialism with his own brooding dark ambience.
Trent Reznor was a hero to the young Tiga - 'He played a big part in
me wanting to make music'.
'Burning Down the House' sees Tiga cover Talking Heads'
famous track, inflecting it with a bleep-heavy Detroit vibe. 'Louder
than a Bomb' is Tiga's confident strut into hip hop legend's Public
Enemy territory, as his famous attitude-packed cover pops up in the
'Sexor' mix.
Transcending the classic covers tag, 'Sexor' includes
Tiga's 'Pleasure from the Bass' - a low end slice of vocal funk that
became one of 2004's biggest dancefloor hits. 'Good as Gold' sees the
electro star collaborate with the Soulwax brothers and the result is
a track which sparkles with classic Italo-disco stylings.
A current smash-hit on radio, Tiga's 'You Gonna Want Me'
is 'Sexor's' floor-shaking first single. A catchy, bass-heavy slab of
funk, the track sees Jack Shears perform vocals alongside Tiga, a winning
combination which has seen the tune reach #1 on the UK Buzz Chart and
#2 on the ARIA club chart.
In a stunning career which has seen him remix everyone from Depeche
Mode, to the Scissor Sisters and Mylo, lend his vocals to the legendary
Richard X and, make hip hop superstar Nelly funk-worthy thanks to his
famous cover of 'Hot in Herre', Tiga's career keeps going from strength
to strength.
'Sexor' is out now!
