Tony
Woods has a unique and argumentative style of comedy that rings true with thousands
of fans worldwide. As one of America's most wanted comedians (and yes that applies
to the law as well) he has a strong following in the US, UK, Australia and even
Holland despite the fact that he has not updated his MySpace page since Jan 2008!
Born in North Carolina and raised in the D.C. area, Woods kicked off his career
on HBO's Def Comedy Jam and is credited as the inspiration for David Chappelle.
"Yeah there is some truth to that, but he is not the only one, a lot of other
comedians have adapted my style, he just happens to be the richest and is the
most well known
a household name. God bless them all," laughs Tony.
During his first Australian tour in three years, Tony went MIA several
times! In fact Tony missed his first Australian appearance since 2006 and arrived
into Melbourne the day after his first show!! There are also unconfirmed reports
that while Tony was on stage, in Sydney during Sydney Comedy Festival, he was
supposed to be in the US for a court appearance, the nature of which is still
a mystery.
With a show unmistakably entertaining on every level, Tony is
a performer that understands his audience and even encourages them to step into
his strange, strange world. During his sell out run at the 2009 Sydney Comedy
Festival, a diehard fan approached Tony with an unusual request - could he propose
to his girlfriend during Tony's show that night? Always up for a challenge, Tony
brought the guy onstage. However after 15 minutes of Tony's leading questions,
the guy still hadn't proposed until finally coming out with the romantic line
"Babe will you marry me? I'll never cheat on you!"
After his
knockout performance at CRACKER NIGHT as part of the 2009 Sydney Comedy Festival,
Good News Week jumped at the chance to have him on the show in May this year.
While on his previous visit three years earlier, Tony's playful, cool demeanor
and sharp and mischievous subject matter had The Footy Show declaring him their
favorite act ever!
Tony's recent appearances Comedy Central Presents Tony
Woods, Comedy Central USO Tour, and Comedy Central World Comedy Tour have made
him a comic favorite of international renown. He has also appeared on Last Comic
Standing, A&E's Caroline's Comedy Hour, Showtime at the Apollo, NBC's Friday
Night Videos, Just for Laughs, NYPD Blue, HACK, Late Night with Conan O'Brien
and HBO Comedy Spot.
