23
year-old Megan Washington, is something of a rarity - a trained and talented musician
inclined toward exploring something deeper. Washington (vocals, guitar and piano)
and her band, Lance Ferguson, John Castle, Des White, Ross Irwin and Ryan Monro
have started capturing hearts far and wide.
In 2009, Washington played at
the Big Day Out as a Triple J Unearthed contest winner, which resulted with songs
'Clementine' and 'How To Tame Lions' receiving high demand, gaining heavy radio
rotation. Soon after Washington released 'How To Tame Lions', won the inaugural
Vanda and Young Songwriting Competition, sold over 12,000 units and three of her
releases making the top five in the Australian iTunes charts without any marketing.
Now, Washington has graced us with her new single 'Rich Kids'. One of the
most adorable singles to hit Australian air waves, 'Rich Kids' is a unique and
heart warming track that will put a smile on every listeners face.
Washington
is a singer/songwriter that is difficult to pigeonhole, she crosses genres from
pop to country to folk and her influences range from Kate Bush to Paul Simon,
Leonard Cohen to Radiohead. As she puts it, "Broken Motown meets wonky Elvis
Costello." However, it's her musicality, song writing and intuitive intellect
that distinguishes her from her peers.
Having a live profile that has been
going from strength to strength, playing sell out shows and supporting artists
such as Old Man River, Tim Finn's band, Ben Lee and Sia, Washington are about
to embark on a National tour including the Rockwiz tour.
"She has
a jazz-honed voice with a whole lot of pluck
her tunes 'Cement' and 'Clementine'...
undoubtedly, these are perfect pop songs." - Yen magazine
