WILD REUNION 1996 - 2011 - Mixed by Nick Skitz
& Jimmy Z
Can you believe it's been FIFTEEN
YEARS since WILD first burst onto Sydney's airwaves?
WILD
celebrates its Fifteen Year Anniversary since broadcasting began as a test FM
radio station in Sydney early November 1996, then later Brisbane in September
1998. WILD changed the culture of dance and popular music across Australia, inspiring
a new breed of club goers and music fans nationwide. In any industry, fifteen
years is a significant milestone. In the Australian dance music community however
it's virtually unattainable. Who'd have ever thought that a radio station powered
by the raw energy and excitement of a group of young upstarts would go on to become
such an iconic symbol?
WILD was about the vibe, the music,
the energy... staffed predominately by volunteers all aged under 25, there was
no 'old' people dictating what 'young' people should hear. The results were to
change the Australian music scene forever. When WILD took to the airwaves, their
radio ratings hit between 3 & 6% market share, which is absolutely massive
for a small community volunteer driven station.
"Sydney
was booming in the late 90s. The city was ramping up for the Olympics and the
mood of the city was vibrant and energetic. WILD was in the thick of it and we
really captured the mood of the times. One of my favourite memories was sitting
on top of the ANZ building at Circular Quay with a case of beer waiting to turn
the transmitter on at the beginning of each broadcast... Admittedly, I was a bit
of a young prick back then. But then again, if I wasn't we probably wouldn't have
started WILD" - Wild FM Founder, Anthony "Gogo" Gherghetta
The
success of WILD was ultimately its undoing... Taking ratings from major stations,
dominating the singles charts by breaking unknown independent acts and its double
platinum selling CD's that saw the spread of the music go from Sydney & Brisbane
to infiltrate the rest of Australia changing the face and sound of the club scene
and radio forever. Combined, it was all just too much for commercial broadcasters
who combined with governing bodies sought to prevent a full time licence. It became
too big: it had to be stopped.
Now for the very first time
we seek to reunite all the WILD personalities together to stage WILD's first ever
official reunion 1996 - 2011, featuring the biggest WILD anthems past and present
giving one ultimate collection for anyone that ever owned a WILD CD, listened
to the station or just loves dance music!
'WILD REUNION' has
all the saints and sinners of a generation, from Fatboy Slim's mix of 'Brimful
of Asha', Tiesto's mix of Delierium's 'Silence' right through to Wayne G's mix
of the Backsteet Boys!
Now you can bag all the original DJ's, music, crew,
fans and the memories on three jam packed CD's mixed by WILD FM's Jimmy Z and
the original mega-mix legend; Nick Skitz.
