Star Wars Fans Encouraged To Walk A Mile For Scott Loxley

With International Star Wars Day upon us, Sydneysiders are encouraged to descend on Pitt Street Mall on Monday May the 4th and ‘walk a mile’ for Scott Loxley – the Melbourne man who has been ‘storming Australia’ in his full 501st Legion Sandtrooper Star Wars costume since 2013. As an avid Star Wars fan himself, Scott’s mission is to raise vital funds for the Monash Children’s Hospital, with an aim to secure $100,000 for kids in need. Throughout his 18-month journey, Scott will visit every State and Territory and cover around 15,000kms in total. Visitors to Pitt Street Mall are encouraged to donate a gold coin and hop on a treadmill to do their bit. From 12:30pm – 2:00pm, the team at Fit & Fast will be providing treadmills and fitness instructors, with Stormtrooper helmets and light sabers also on hand to provide to some ‘force’ to each mission!

South Eveleigh will celebrate the Hindu Holi festival for the first time with free community activations and installations on Thursday 21 March. The precinct will be transformed from 11am to 8pm into a medley of activities, including live dance performances, music, food and beverage experiences as well as a colour throwing event. Holi, also known as the festival of colour, is a Hindu spring festival celebrated predominantly in India and Nepal. It falls in March and marks the arrival of a new season. A Touch Of Gold Exhibition – Textiles & Surface Design

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Australian Textile Arts & Surface Design Association, the exhibition, A Touch of Gold, explores artist’s concepts of the theme. Intriguing use of fibre and mixed media define this contemporary display of expressive textile wall hangings, 3D objects and wearable art which all reveal a physical ‘touch of gold’. Working with diverse art practices, techniques and materials, sixty ATASDA members have created a rich tapestry of textile artworks employing fibre, weaving, felting, dyeing, printing, traditional and contemporary embroidery, and stitch techniques. Some historic pieces by renowned Australian textile art practitioners are included in this celebratory exhibition.
