Australia Day 2016 at Barangaroo Reserve

Experience Australia Day at Sydney’s sensational new headland park, Barangaroo Reserve, on 26 January 2016. Bring a picnic, find a beautiful patch of lawn, and spend the day watching the parade of spectacular Australia Day events on Sydney Harbour.

The day begins with the WugulOra Morning Ceremony (7:30am–8:00am) at Walumil Lawn, which will be a special moment to commence Australia Day in Sydney by acknowledging our shared history. The ceremony celebrates Australia’s Traditional Custodians and features performances from young Indigenous artists, the Jannawi Dance Clan, with Creative Director and proud Darug woman Peta Strachan. The location provides visitors with a perfect vantage point to see the raising of the Aboriginal and Australian flags on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

At 11:40am, catch the finish of the Ferrython and the Tall Ships under the Sydney Harbour Bridge from a whole new vantage point on the CBD’s western foreshore. At 12:35pm, enjoy the Junkyard Beats from the comfort of Walumil Lawn and Barangaroo’s stunning sandstone foreshore as their Cruising Concert barge comes past Barangaroo Reserve. From 2:20pm–2:50pm, enjoy the Enormous Horns band on the Cruising Concert as it rounds the Barangaroo Point headland and moors in Nawi Cove.

Find a spot on Nawi Cove’s natural sandstone amphitheatre, grab a cushion and enjoy the free concert Nawi Sunset Sounds, on Dukes Pier at 5:00pm-8:00pm. Discover Sydney’s most spectacular sunset at Nawi Cove while you enjoy performances from some of Australia’s favourite young entertainers: Ellie Drennan, crowned the winner of The Voice Australia 2015 at 16 years of age; and the series runner-up, Joe Moore; with singer Luke Antony.

A traditional Aboriginal Sunset Ceremony featuring traditional dancers and music, will be held at 7:50pm–8:10pm to say goodbye to Grandfather Sun. The performances will be coordinated by renowned Aboriginal educator Clarence Slockee, who also heads up Barangaroo’s Visitor Services Guides team.
