RUMA Opens in Double Bay
RUMA is a great new all-day dining spot that has just opened its doors in Double Bay.
RUMA, appropriately translating to “home” in Malay, is helmed by acclaimed Chef Faheem Noor and offers a fresh take on all-day dining, blending vibrant Modern Australian cuisine with bold Asian influences in a warm, welcoming space.
Drawing on the feel of traditional Malay homes, RUMA’s design is cosy yet chic. Visitors can expect a welcoming atmosphere – a home away from home – with warm tones, raw materials, and native floral arrangements that create an intimate, laid-back vibe.
At RUMA, the dishes are crafted with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, bringing comfort and creativity to every bite. Staying true to its local roots, RUMA collaborates with key suppliers like Peter Wadsworth, a farmer from Milton, for fresh seasonal produce.
“Our menu is inspired by the incredible diversity of Sydney’s food scene,” says Noor. “We’re blending familiar flavours with unique touches to create dishes that feel like home but with a twist.”
For breakfast, prepare to be surprised with dishes including Kimchi and scallions hashbrowns, Strawberry Sando, Dosa with coconut chutney, Thai-style sausage McMuffin, and the house favourite Australian scrambled eggs with Sambal Matah.
For lunch and dinner – available from 11am until late – you can enjoy small plates ranging from Infused Watermelon, House Taramasalata and WA Octopus to Korean Fried Chicken with caviar which brings a fun, elevated twist. If you like it raw, there’s delicious Sydney Rock Oysters, Tuna Tartare and the delectable Kingfish and Cooked Tiger Prawns to indulge in.
More substantial offerings include the Lemon Ravioli with kaffir lime leaves and crispy chilli oil, Wagyu Striploin with sarawak pepper jus and charred peppers, Beef Short Rib with kecap manis glaze and sambal hijau, Crumbed Lamb Cutlets with peas, baby cos and mint sauce, a super scrumptious Grilled Salmon with stir fry warrigal greens and Asian-style chermoula, and our top pick – the King Prawns Egg Noodle with shellfish butter and scallions. This one is completely loaded with flavour with every bite an absolute joy – luxurious, healthy and ridiculously tasty!
Wash down all of that deliciousness with a drinks list that has been curated by Alex Raclet and Alex Cameron (Table Manners Bronte). Signature cocktails that are guaranteed to be a hit this summer include the spectacular ‘Ruma’ (42 below vodka, passionfruit, ginger, orange blossom, orange juice, lime), ‘Kumquat Margy’ (patrón blanco, kumquat, calamansi, lemon), ‘Stone Fruit Bellini’ (mirabelle plum, mango, allspice, sparkling wine) and the ‘Manuka Old Fashioned’ for the whisky lovers (rye whisky, honey, maple, indian tonic, orange bitters).
Marking a new chapter in Double Bay’s dining evolution, RUMA offers everything from early morning breakfast to dinner with friends, making it a must-visit destination for Sydney’s food lovers. So spread the ‘RUMA’ – with its modern Australian menu with a touch of Asian flair, its super-friendly staff and its cosy welcoming vibe, this is the new hot-spot to be in Double Bay.
