18 Grams, Westfield Eastgardens

18 Grams, Westfield Eastgardens

Westfield Eastgardens was the largest shopping centre in Australia when it first opened in 1987. While bigger centres have been built since then, there’s no doubt that Eastgardens remains one of the busiest in the country. To feed all those hungry shoppers, 18 Grams set up shop in an ideal spot just footsteps away from ALDI and JB Hi-Fi.

The café is the perfect little hideaway or oasis for shoppers – a great place to escape the chaos and kick back after doing the groceries. We have to say, it’s one of our favourite places to have coffee with its specialty house blend and single origin coffee – the roast here is unique and delicious. With tea, mocktails, smoothies, juices and milkshakes also on offer, there’s plenty here for everyone.

As for the food, you’re in for a treat as they have an all-day breakfast menu to tantalise all tastebuds. For something simple, there’s Eggs with Toast, Fresh Fruit Salad, Toasted Muesli, Dukkah Eggs, or the Acai Bowl with acai puree, chia seeds, muesli, coconut flakes and fresh fruits. Satisfying, nutrient-rich and naturally sweet.

For a signature dish, try the Brekkie Stack which features a nicely toasted, buttery croissant which is packed with spinach, smoky bacon, a perfectly poached egg and breakfast beans. For a naughtier treat, there’s the Panko Crumbed Brioche French Toast with grilled banana, fresh fruit, berry compote, ice-cream and a good drizzle of maple syrup. But the Avocado Bruschetta is our top pick for brunch with feta, smashed avocado, tomato salsa, poached eggs and balsamic glaze. Bursting with fresh flavours, it’s finger-licking good.

If you’ve worked up a slightly bigger appetite shopping up a storm, lunch looks like a hearty Mediterranean style grilled Chicken Burger loaded with spinach, eggplant, roast capsicum, haloumi, zucchini, feta and mayo in between a soft milk bun. Or opt for a hipster approved healthy bowl with soft poached eggs, avocado, kale, mushroom and quinoa. Or go the vegetarian route with the Middle Eastern and North African inspired Shakshuka. Featuring baked eggs, spinach, avocado and feta with harissa sauce, it’s deliciously spicy – the perfect winter warmer.

With salads and even a kids menu available, 18 Grams have you covered. So next time you’re shopping up a storm at Eastgardens, take a break from the pandemonium and hit up 18 Grams for a quick coffee fix or indulge in one of their delicious food offerings.
