Buzo, Woollahra

Buzo, Woollahra

Following a successful relaunch in late 2015, Woollahra’s BUZO restaurant is expanding into modern European cuisine.

Moving away from the heavier classic Italian style dishes, the venue is evolving into a stylish, neighbourhood restaurant in tune with its fashionable locale, where people return for the style of food rather than one particular dish.

The six-course shared Evolutionary menu is ideal for those wanting to experience the culmination of the BUZO evolution. The gastronomic journey begins with pickled red cabbage crackers, with parmesan custard followed by scallop carpaccio with pickled baby corn, cured cucumber & dill; cured wagyu tartare with roasted kale, sweet onion, radish & mustard; confit kingfish with carrot, pickled daikon, coriander & squid ink; grilled lamb rump with pumpkin, parmesan & roasted baby cos; then finishing with an irresistible malt banana parfait with coconut yogurt, white chocolate & blueberry.  Regularly $75, the Evolution menu is available for $60 on Tuesday nights.

The a la carte menu is equally as tantalising. The new Winter menu features a duck ravioli, sweet corn, basil & wild mushroom broth and is expected to be the next acclaimed signature dish for BUZO. On our visit, we sampled the steamed snapper and crispy chicken. The snapper was fresh and elegantly presented with Jerusalem artichoke, red cabbage purée, and broccolini. And the chicken certainly was crispy and scrumptious coming with smoked mash, celery, and roasted grapes.

The entrée and salad options are just as enticing including the beetroot and goats curd salad, pork shoulder terrine, cured wagyu tartare, scallop carpaccio and the slowed cooked octopus which we just couldn’t resist trying. Together with chorizo, chickpea, lemon, oregano, and hazelnut, this one was just heavenly and had us licking the plate clean!

While here, you will also want to indulge in some beverages to wash down that delicious food. The bar menu is quite extensive with a wide range of wines, cocktails, beers, and other spirits. One of the highlights on the winter menu would have to be the Arancia cocktail where the sweetness of orange (blood orange + orange liqueur) marries the intensely aromatic flavour of prosecco. Highly recommended!

BUZO is a beautiful, intimate, cosy venue to enjoy a fancy drink and have a good quality feed. We found the food to be outstanding and the service impeccable. BUZO is open for dinner Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm until midnight and lunch on Sunday from midday until 4pm.  Lunch is also available seven days by appointment for groups. We highly recommend making a reservation as the venue was fully booked out on the night we attended. Reservations can be made by calling 02 9328 1600 or emailing [email protected].
