Glebe’s The Toxteth Reopens

Glebe’s The Toxteth Reopens

Renowned inner-city icon, The Toxteth, has unveiled its all-new look and conceptualisation, reopening after a six-month refurbishment. Led by Public House Management Group (PHMG), the significant works reveal an all-new food and beverage menu, new cocktail offering, events packages and interior design overhaul.

Positioned in the inner west suburb of Glebe, The Toxteth is the reinvention of sentimentality and innovation. Affectionally known as ‘The Tocky,’ the refurbishment follows shortly after its $22 million-dollar purchase by PHMG in February 2017 from Geoff Dixon and John Singleton’s Riversdale Group.

Public House Management Group managing director Mitchell Waugh says: “The Tocky holds an immense amount of sentimental value for me. These walls became a second home as I worked here throughout university; I never quite let go of the energy and vibrancy this pub could bring to the community. It is the ultimate honour to open our new doors, celebrate the local, and continue its legacy.”

With an all-new menu hailing as one of the most significant changes, Group Executive Chef Ben Varela gives emphasis to vegetarian and vegan options, including Latina Hot Bowls, Vitality Salads and Japanese Soba Noodles. Local favourites will be introduced with Varela’s touch, including dishes from The Grill, internationally-influenced salads, gelatos and a reimagined kids menu. With family forming the DNA of The Toxteth, the Bistro has aptly been named ‘Sienna’s’, after Mitchell’s daughter.

Group Bars Manager, Kurtis Bosley @cocktailsbykurtis, presents a highly-differentiated beverage offering with an all-new cocktail menu and wine list, featuring a number of wines and cocktails on tap. The wine list has been purposefully-designed to complement the vegan options with organic and vegan wines, while local breweries are celebrated with the integration of micro-breweries such as Young Henry’s.

Designer Amandine Odouard (Bar Moncur Woollahra) remains at the helm of design. Impressive structural changes include a new retractable roof covering the ambient courtyard, while Amandine adds signature features throughout the venue with exposed copper beer pipes, green foliage walls, leather panelling and timber finishing, among soft olive hues and cobble stone textures.

Continuing the premium design, upstairs welcomes the all-new function space, ‘Birdies Bar’ – a fully self-sufficient events space hosting up to 120 people for private events. The all-new Toxteth experience is complete with a line-up of regular entertainment and events, including Saturday and Sunday acoustic sessions celebrating local talent, Sienna’s Brunch Club every Saturday, Sunday ‘Craft-ernoons to explore the best of local breweries, Trivia and Musical Bingo.
