Margherita’s Vinoteca

Margherita’s Vinoteca

Hospitality powerhouse Universal Hotels have just unveiled their latest venue, Margherita’s Vinoteca.

Located at Sydney’s World Square, this new high-end wine bar and restaurant seats 120 people and serves up a delectable Italian menu for both intimate and shared dining.

The Antipasti options include everything from Olives and Oysters to the Beef Carpaccio which includes capers, watermelon radish, bronze fennel, cacioricotta and lemon. On our visit, we opted for the Prawns which consisted of grilled Yamba king prawns, chilli, lime and garlic butter sauce.  A perfect starter dish which just has you craving for more.

There are plenty of choices when it comes to picking a main. Pasta options include the Linguine Nero with blue swimmer crab, cherry tomatoes, basil, garlic, chilli and bottarga or Risotto with black pepper, taleggio, bone marrow and lemon. Then there’s the grilled Ocean Trout Fillet with braised chickpeas and pinenut crust or the Baby Chicken with crispy skin, truffle polenta, balsamic and Chianti sauce.

But we opted for the Margherita pizza which came directly from the stone fire oven. The pizza consisted of San marzano tomatoes, fior di latte, and basil – a basic list of ingredients but highly filling and satisfying. There’s also a large variety of other pizzas to choose from including Biano with white truffle, sage, pancetta, bechamel, fior di latter or Gamberoni with yamba king prawns, ricotta, chilli, pine nuts, grapes, san marzano tomatoes.

And the night doesn’t end there. Before you leave, you must sample some of the delectable dessert that is on offer. We can confirm that the Tiramisu (coffee, mascarpone, sponge fingers) is finger-licking good…as is the Panna Cotta (vanilla bean and mascarpone, amaretto poached fruit) which is a perfect gluten-free option.

Beverage-wise, you can’t go wrong here either. There’s an extensive wine list and a large selection of beers, ciders, soft drinks, spirits, and cocktails to choose from. We tried Margherita’s slight twist on the Espresso Martini which featured Aperol-Kahlua-Coffee – absolutely delicious and one that will no doubt be a crowd-pleaser.

Margherita’s Vinoteca is a fine addition to Sydney’s culinary pride. A perfect spot for a high-end feast and some quality beverages before painting the town red.
