Vecino Launch New Menu
It’s not often we find ourselves in the south-western suburb of Canterbury but one place that will always inspire us to visit is Vecino. Combining Tex-Mex flavours with traditional Korean food, this Mexican-Korean fusion joint is already making waves in the foodie community – it is truly unique for the area and worth the trip alone.
Vecino offer a creative menu with lots of tasty treats from Bulgogi fries and tacos, kimchi burritos, hotteok (Korean pancakes) dessert quesadillas, Makgeoritas (rice wine meets tequila) and a truckload of Soju-infused cocktails. With burgers and some perfectly made Korean fried chicken also available, it’s not an easy task deciding what you’ll be devouring on your visit.
What might make the decision a tad easier is the brand new menu that has just been launched. Some of the new flavourful additions include the Veggie Chicken (crispy cauliflower glazed in sweet spicy sauce served with tortilla chips), the Kimchi Fried Rice Mozzarella Cheese Balls with bacon, ground nacho, and gochujung aioli (two arancini balls of cheesy goodness which we demolished with ease on our recent visit), and the Kalbi Tacos with Korean style honey soy marinated pork, mixed cabbage, crispy cos lettuce, special ssamjung aioli sauce and sour cream with salsa and jalapeño. Another fine Korean-Mexican fusion which results in a flavour explosion in the mouth.
Further new additions include the Snow Crispy Tenderloin Chicken, the show-stopping B.T.S. fried chicken platter coated in housemade smokey barbeque sauce, teriyaki and sweet spicy sauce and the BBQ Chicken if you like it really sticky and saucy. But our top pick is the Ghost Spicy & Snow Tenderloin Chicken which features a half crispy tenderloin chicken coated with ghost spicy sauce and housemade smoked barbecue sauce served with salad. Combining the cheesiness with the spicy, saucy flavour is a masterstroke – succulent and just so finger-licking good.
Something else we really love are the boundary-pushing cocktails such as the Corona Rita (Corona with classic lime frozen margarita), Cruiser Rita (Vodka Cruiser Watermelon with watermelon frozen margarita) and the thirst-quenching Sexy Sanchez (Kopparberg Strawberry Cider with strawberry frozen margarita). On our visit, we were lucky enough to sample two cocktails Vecino are currently toying with including an hibiscus and berry cocktail called Romantic Romeo and a kiwi fruit cocktail called Kiwi Bikini. We can only hope these bad boys end up on the menu as they are absolutely delicious and refreshing and need to be experienced by everyone.
Vecino has to be one of our favourite venues opened in the past year – the food is delicious and fulfilling, the cocktails are amazing, and the staff are incredibly friendly. Highly recommended!
