Westfield Sydney and Westfield Bondi Junction Unveil Interactive Installations to Celebrate Mardi Gras 2022
In the lead up to Mardi Gras 2022, Westfield Sydney and Westfield Bondi Junction have collaborated with Sydney-based artist, storyteller and member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Jeff McCann, to unveil a series of activities and interactive installations that celebrate the Mardi Gras spirit of self-expression, inclusion and acceptance.
Jeff McCann’s installation, the ‘Community Garden’ features large scale flowers in-centre representing the reflective and playful nature of the LGBTQIA+ community and how we all shine together in our different ways celebrating the 2022 Mardi Gras themed of “United We Shine”. Each flower is marked with QR codes that will allow customers to hear stories from five different members of the community and how they identify themselves.
Popping up at Westfield Sydney and Westfield Bondi Junction until the 6th of March, the installation is a community moment that involves art, collaboration, education and inclusivity.
The celebrations leave the centres awash with colour as McCann’s artistic flare extends to the doors and floors of Westfield Sydney and Bondi Junction. The festivities at Westfield Bondi Junction will also be complemented by the presence of Drag Queen Royalty every Saturday in the lead-up to Mardi Gras between 11am-3pm, including an appearance from award-winning entertainer, Coco Jumbo on the 3rd March.
