Bhoomi Restaurant, Glebe

Bhoomi Restaurant, Glebe

The restaurateurs behind Jewel of the Bay and The Spice Room have just opened up their latest dining destination in Glebe. Situated in the historical location previously occupied by the reputed Darling Mills, Bhoomi is a contemporary Indian restaurant paying homage to Mother Earth.

The innovative menu and exceptional interior at Bhoomi brings the elements of earth to life. The interior is quite a sight with its exposed brick walls and hints of saffron, cinnamon and basmati to awaken diners’ appetites. At the Indian clay (Tandoor), Bhoomi’s chefs are hard at work infusing unique smoky flavours into the menu. The inspired dining experience offers up the best dishes from the Indian subcontinent enhanced with contemporary cooking techniques for a delicious twist. The extensive menu includes hot starters such as Crispy Mini Dosa Crepes, South Asian Momo Dumplings, Dal Chawal Arancini, Pan Seared Curried Scallops and Phulka Pancakes.

Main course exotic curries include Bhoomi Butter Chicken, Jaffna Goat Curry, Dhooan Smoked Lamb, Lamb Shanks with Khicharee Risotto, Palak Paneer Gnocchi, and our top pick – the Sri Lankan White Fish Curry. With its crispy skin fish fillet, aromatic Sri Lankan coconut curry and mint sambal, it’s an explosion of flavours that really brings out all of the delicious intricacies of the beautiful fish.

If curry isn’t your thing, there are plenty of alternatives including colds and salads, a vegan menu, and earth fired tandoor options including Whole Tandoori Spatchcock, Murgh Highway Tikka Chicken, Lamb Barrah Kebab Rack, Whole Fish Tandoori, and King Prawn Gulmohar. Simply mouth-watering!

But to truly experience the unique menu, we would highly recommend selecting one of the banquet options. The ‘Taste of Bhoomi’ gives you an opportunity to sample a variety of delectable dishes with starters including Holi Pappadums Smoked Salmon Mousse, Kingfish Ceviche Pani Puri, Lamb Vindaloo Mini Masala Dosa, Scallop Papdi with onion, capers and chilli, Tri-daali Betel Leaf Salad, and a spicy Tamarind Rasam Shot to really clear your throat. For the main, you get a choice out of the Sri Lankan White Fish Curry (our favourite), the Braised Beef Ribs, or the Tandoori Lamb Rack before finishing with a Bhoomi Dessert Platter which is exceptionally delicious.

But it’s not just about the food. There’s a full service bar where mixologists craft cocktails infused with spices and ingredients found in the Indian pantry. Their version of a margarita, The Smoky Chigali, is not to be missed. The cocktail is a combination of smoky mezcal, jalapeno syrup and tamarind, rimmed with paprika and served smoked with apple wood. The Spiked Chai is pretty damn impressive as well promising to warm you from the inside out with its Masala chai, cream, rum, and cointreau.

Open for lunch Wednesday to Sunday (12pm to 3pm) and dinner from Monday to Sunday (5pm to 10pm), Bhoomi is a truly unique dining, drinks and event destination.
