Comedy at Harold Park Hotel
One of Australia’s greatest comedy exports, Jacques Barrett made it to the semi-finals of Raw Comedy when he started his comedy career, going on to make the final five in Rove’s Golden Nut Comedy Awards- all of which led to a role on Channel 9’s Ralph TV and a six month tour of Europe and the UK, where he now spends half his time. You can see Jacques headlining Glebe’s famous “comedy hotel” The Harold Park during launch month on August 6 with Sam Simmons Problems star Laura Hughes hosting.
After a smash season at the 2013 Sydney Comedy Festival, Nova’s baby-faced Nath Valvo returns for one night only on August 13. Nath has written and performed comedy since he was in his teens, his cult comedy group The Shambles made history with their ‘Best of’ DVD becoming the first ever Channel 31 show to be nominated for an ARIA award (2008, Best Comedy Release). Since going solo Nath has written and performed 4 solo stand-up shows in 2 years, all of which achieved critical acclaim- no mean feat with the notoriously hard-nosed reviewers at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Hailing from Melbourne, Matthew Klein won the national Search for a Funny Bone stand up comedy competition in his first year of performing and hasn’t looked back since. Both headlining and supporting some of Australia’s biggest names nationally and internationally, Matt’s energetic and engaging style of universal comedy has firmly established him as an audience favourite and took him to the USA to play all the top clubs and the prestigious college circuit. See what the States loves about Klein when he headlines the 20th of August before he head off to make his mark in the UK.
You may have seen Simon Kennedy most recently on the Channel 7 Morning Show- either on the panel or as his hilarious alter-ego Denis Crocker. Riffing with the hosts on the days news keeps Simon sharp and match-fit, his razor-sharp wit having seen him flown to Miami for NBC’s Last Comic Standing and is a seasoned professional and one of Australia’s hardest working comedians, and his appearance at the Harold Park on August 27 is not to be missed.
Every Tuesday night, the 8pm show is hosted by an established comedian MC and headliner, with guest spots from new up and coming talent as well as well-known comedians coming down to try out new material at the hallowed place the likes Robin Williams and Adam Hills have done just that!
