DC Willans Exhibition
This weekend, acclaimed UK airbrush artist DC Willans will exhibit a series of paradise-inspired T-shirt designs in his signature “photorealistic pop” style, as part of the DC Willans T-Shirt Studio at Broadway Shopping Centre.
As part of the exhibition, Broadway Shopping Centre is inviting shoppers and contemporary art aficionados to celebrate their unique take on paradise by purchasing a white tee and having it customised by the acclaimed airbrush artist himself. The T-Shirt Studio and exhibition will be complimented by a bespoke paradise-inspired mural which Willans is designing in the Centre.
UK-born Willans is well known for his large mural artworks that have transformed commercial buildings, retail spaces and suburban streets all around Sydney. Previously commissioned by companies such as Audi and Red Bull he has also exhibited his work in New York, The Modern Contemporary Museum and Sydney Museum. DC’s greatest honour was painting a portrait for Amy Winehouse at her request after she saw some of his work in London.
Commenting on his work, Willans says “My thing growing up was always trying to achieve realism and the airbrush made that possible. The beauty of airbrushing is that you can apply the paint to any surface. I’ve painted onto the human body, onto vehicles and all kinds of fabrics, such as T-shirts which I’ll be working with at Broadway.”
Willans has an affinity with the local Broadway area. Since moving to Australia, he found himself surrounded by many creative and inspiring people, particularly in Chippendale, Surry Hills, and Newtown, which he describes as “areas that are really encouraging creativity”.

His T-Shirt Studio and exhibition will allow our shoppers to express their own unique style through a customised fashion piece which they will work with DC Willans to design, which is a great talking point.” says Justine Saltmarsh, Centre Manager, Broadway Shopping Centre.
Willans will be working from his T-Shirt Studio during select times to bring a pop of colour and edgy design to Australia’s number one shopping centre.
